Commitment: 5–10 hours per week | Minimum over 3-month commitment
About Us
A Free Bird is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering children affected by cancer through artistic expression. We provide children ages 4–18 with opportunities to explore art, music, acting, writing, and other creative outlets to support emotional healing and personal growth.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Video Game Developer to support the creation of an interactive, art-focused educational mobile game designed to inspire and engage children through creative learning.
This role involves contributing to both the technical development and creative design of the game, collaborating with a team to build engaging gameplay experiences that align with our mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement game features from concept to completion
- Collaborate with designers and team members to define gameplay mechanics and creative direction
- Write and maintain C# scripts for game functionality (Unity-based development)
- Assist with game systems including shaders, textures, lighting, and performance optimization
- Contribute to game design documentation and technical specifications
- Troubleshoot bugs and resolve development and production issues
- Support integration of art, animation, and interactive elements into gameplay
- Participate in team discussions to refine both technical and aesthetic aspects of the game
Qualifications
- Experience with game development using Unity and C#
- Strong understanding of game development principles and workflows
- Experience with 3D modeling, texturing, lighting, and rendering
- Familiarity with tools such as Maya, 3ds Max, Visual Studio, and Adobe Creative Cloud
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a remote, team-based environment
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
- Previous experience in game development or related projects preferred
Nice to Have
- Experience with animation and interactive design
- Knowledge of mobile game development and optimization
- Passion for educational or mission-driven game development
Additional Information
- Fully remote position
- Flexible schedule (weekdays preferred)
- Minimum 3-month commitment required
- 5–10 hours per week (based on role level)
- Must have access to a computer and reliable internet
- Availability for periodic phone or video meetings required
