Head Cook
Position: Head Cook - Gordon
Full Time, Part Year: 40 Hours per week - below .75 FTE (open until filled)

Job Summary:
Our Head Start preschool center in Gordon is seeking a skilled and passionate cook to join our team. The Head Start Cook will be responsible for planning and preparing nutritious meals and snacks for children enrolled in our program. The successful candidate will have experience working in a commercial kitchen, a passion for cooking, and a commitment to providing high-quality meals that meet the nutritional needs of young children.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and prepare nutritious meals and snacks for children in accordance with USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines
- Ensure that meals and snacks are served on time and in a safe and hygienic manner
- Maintain accurate records of menus, inventory, and food orders
- Collaborate with program staff to meet the dietary needs of children with special dietary requirements or food allergies
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, and comply with all health and safety regulations
- Attend staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities as required
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary degree or certification preferred
- Minimum of two years of experience working in a commercial kitchen, preferably in a childcare or school setting
- Knowledge of USDA CACFP guidelines and ability to plan and prepare meals that meet these guidelines
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices and ability to maintain a clean and organized kitchen
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills
- Must pass required background checks
- Must be 21 years of age and have a valid driver's license
Pay and Benefits: Starting wage is $15.50 - $16.50 an hour depending upon qualifications and experience. Generous sick, vacation and holiday pay available! Health, Dental and Vision Insurance along with matching retirement plans available! Nights and weekends off. Summers off!
