Job Title: Oracle Database Administrator (Oracle DBA)

Job Summary

The Oracle DBA is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, performance tuning, and security of Oracle database systems. This role ensures high availability, reliability, and optimal performance of databases supporting critical business applications.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Strong experience with Oracle Database (11g, 12c, 19c, 21c)
  • Expertise in RMAN backup and recovery
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle Data Guard, RAC, and ASM
  • Proficiency in SQL and PL/SQL programming
  • Performance tuning using AWR, ADDM, ASH reports
  • Experience with database patching and upgrades
  • Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix systems
  • Scripting skills (Shell, Python)
  • Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS RDS, Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - OCI)
  • Knowledge of Oracle GoldenGate replication
  • Experience with Exadata systems
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools (Ansible, Jenkins)

Understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field

Oracle certifications (OCA/OCP/OCE) preferred

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in high-pressure production environments

Roles & Responsibilities

1. Database Installation & Configuration

  • Install, configure, and upgrade Oracle databases
  • Set up environments for development, testing, and production
  • Configure RAC, ASM, and Data Guard
  • Apply patches and updates

2. Database Administration & Maintenance

  • Monitor database performance and health
  • Manage tablespaces, schemas, and storage
  • Perform database cloning and refresh activities
  • Handle user access and security roles

3. Backup & Recovery

  • Implement backup strategies using RMAN
  • Perform backup and recovery operations
  • Conduct disaster recovery testing
  • Ensure backup integrity and availability

4. Performance Tuning

  • Analyze and optimize SQL queries
  • Monitor system performance metrics
  • Resolve bottlenecks and improve efficiency
  • Tune indexing and database structures

5. High Availability & Disaster Recovery

  • Manage Data Guard and standby databases
  • Perform failover and switchover operations
  • Ensure minimal downtime and business continuity

6. Security & Compliance

  • Implement database security policies
  • Manage encryption and auditing
  • Ensure compliance with standards and regulations

7. Automation & Scripting

  • Develop automation scripts for routine tasks
  • Schedule jobs and maintenance activities
  • Improve operational efficiency through automation

8. Troubleshooting & Support

  • Resolve database issues and incidents
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA)
  • Provide on-call support for production systems

9. Cloud & Migration

  • Support database migrations and upgrades
  • Manage Oracle databases on cloud platforms
  • Optimize performance in cloud environments

10. Documentation & Collaboration

  • Maintain documentation and runbooks
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams
    • Support release and change management processes
