Join the Palm Beach County Parks & Recreation team as the next Public Works Crew Chief supporting Green Cay Park, Green Cay Nature Center & Wetlands, and Wakodahatchee Wetlands. This is an exciting opportunity to guide essential park operations, support the park’s mission-driven work, and help ensure that some of South Florida’s most iconic natural and recreational spaces remain safe, beautiful, and welcoming.

 

YOUR ROLE AND IMPACT

As the Public Works Crew Chief, you will:

  • Direct, oversee, and participate in all elements of park property maintenance, grounds operations, and construction support.
  • Direct and lead crew members and contractors performing unskilled and semiskilled labor, equipment operation, repairs, and general labor tasks.
  • Provide on-site directions to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to high operational standards.
  • Oversee and participate in daily maintenance of boardwalks, trails, facilities, landscaped areas, infrastructure, wetlands, and natural spaces.
  • Support special projects, event preparation, program needs, and facility improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with work plans, operational procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with the public, volunteers, coworkers, and service providers.
  • Work independently within established plans and procedures, while collaborating closely with higher-level supervisors.

 

Your leadership directly supports the visitor experience and protects the integrity of some of Palm Beach County’s most environmentally significant sites.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

This position requires qualified applicants to possess the following:


 

  • Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of two (2) years of experience in construction, maintenance, athletic, park, golf, equestrian facility, or event preparation, including three (3) months of experience directing the work of others.  

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience in preparing technical reports,
  • Experience establishing and maintaining work relationships with the public, volunteers, co-workers, and contractors,
  • Experience in wetland or boardwalk maintenance, 
  • Completion of college-level coursework in Natural Area Management, Park Management, Forestry, Horticulture, and/or related discipline, and
  • Valid First Aid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certification.
