Lead Teacher Grammar School
Sandhills Classical Christian School, located in Whispering Pines, NC, is seeking a Lead Teacher for our Grammar School (Grades K-6). SCCS provides a classical education that couples spiritual vitality with engaged students, exceptional staff, and robust programs in a well-designed learning environment supported by strong fiscal management and committed donor development. SCCS is fully accredited with the Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS) for grades K-12.
Job Summary:
The Lead Teacher is to support and lead in the calling to provide students an excellent classical education founded upon a biblical worldview. As such, any candidate should be able to ensure that:
- Students will be welcomed into an open and instructive classroom,
- Students will be taught using an excellent classical methodology, and
- Will encourage and model a true Christ-like attitude in all things.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or other related field (Masters preferred)
- Experience with elementary and secondary instruction, preferably in a K-12 setting
- Extensive knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in childhood education
- Ability to successfully engage students and foster physical, emotional, cognitive and social development
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, staff, and parents
Essential Job Functions:
- Teach established curriculum objectives according to assigned grade level
- Plan daily activities and lessons using established scope and sequence that correspond with curriculum objectives that correspond to a daily class schedule
- Integrate Scripture throughout daily activities
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment
- Respond appropriately to crisis emergency situations that may occur
- Use appropriate behavior management and classroom discipline
- Help students comprehend classroom rules and follow classroom procedures
- Supervise upkeep of all educational equipment and materials in assigned classroom
- Establish consistent communication with parents to promote understanding of their child’s progress and encourage participation in school activities
- Distribute classroom newsletter (K-5th) once per week or monthly email communication (6th – 12th) as required
- Regular submission of lesson plans to the appropriate administrator
- Creating detailed, thorough lesson plans for Substitute Teacher including any Emergency lesson plans on file
- Attend monthly staff meetings, staff development, school programs, and other special events
- Supervise Assistant Teachers as needed
- Abide by the principles of Matthew 18 in addressing grievance
