Role Summary

We are seeking a motivated RF/Wireless Engineering Intern to join our team for the Summer 2026 season. This role offers hands-on experience in the design, testing, and optimization of wireless communication systems, including Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and small cell networks. You will work alongside senior engineers to solve real-world connectivity challenges in complex environments like stadiums, campus high-rises, and transit hubs. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in a project from concept to design to execution by joining our project management and execution team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • RF Site Surveys: Assist in performing baseline cellular and public safety radio surveys using tools like PCTEL scanners or handheld spectrum analyzers.
  • System Design Support: Help draft predictive wireless designs using industry-standard software (e.g., iBwave or Atoll) to determine optimal antenna placement.
  • Field Testing, Installation & Commissioning: Participate in the "turn-up" of new systems, including cable sweep testing (VSWR/Return Loss) and PIM (Passive Intermodulation) testing.
  • Data Analysis: Process signal strength data and help generate "Heat Maps" to identify coverage gaps or interference issues.
  • Technical Documentation: Assist in preparing Close-Out Packages (COPs) and compliance reports for clients and regulatory bodies.

Required Qualifications

  • Academic Background: Enrollment in or recent graduation from an accredited Electrical Engineering or Telecommunications program (Junior/Senior standing or Master’s candidates preferred).
  • Technical Core: A solid grasp of RF fundamentals, including electromagnetic propagation, transmission line theory, and link budget analysis.
  • Lab & Field Proficiency: Hands-on experience with essential diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Professional Communication: Ability to translate complex technical data into clear field notes and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including project managers and senior technicians.
  • The Morcom Mindset: We value an inquisitive nature. We look for individuals who challenge the status quo and use collaborative problem-solving to find innovative solutions where others only see obstacles.

Preferred Skills (The "Nice-to-Haves")

  • Design Proficiency: Experience with CAD or wireless modeling software (e.g., iBwave) to assist in system design.
  • Industry Standards: A baseline interest in cellular technologies (5G NR) and familiarity with public safety codes such as NFPA 1221 or IFC 510.
  • Technical Versatility: Prior hands-on experience with coaxial cable termination, fiber optic splicing, or site surveying.
  • Team Integration: Proficiency in foosball—we are looking for a challenger to face the company’s reigning champion!

Professional Growth & Development at Morcom

  • Executive Mentorship: Junior engineers receive direct, one-on-one mentorship from seasoned industry leaders, bridging the gap between theory and high-level practice.
  • Technical Field Exposure: Candidates gain hands-on experience within active construction environments and mission-critical telecommunications head-ends.
  • Instrumentation Proficiency: We provide comprehensive training on high-end RF diagnostic equipment and industry-standard network design software.
  • Collaborative Culture: We encourage a mindset of healthy inquiry and technical curiosity, empowering every team member to contribute to innovative problem-solving.
  • Team Integration: We maintain an engaging office culture — designed to foster camaraderie and team cohesion.
