Substitute Teacher, Grand Junction 


 

Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Substitute Teacher for Pre-K and Elementary grades. The ideal candidate will provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment while following lessons the teacher leaders provide. This position offers the opportunity to make a positive impact on young learners and support their academic and social development. The hourly range for this position is $18-$22 on a contractor pay.

The mission of Wildflower Montessori Public Schools of Colorado (WMPSC) is to provide families with child-centered, authentic Montessori education that bridges academic outcomes and social-emotional development through intimate learning communities deeply rooted in place, equity, and belonging. 


 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, engaging, and respectful classroom environment that fosters learning and student participation.
  • Instructional Support: Implement lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher, adapting as necessary to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Supervision: Monitor students during classroom activities, transitions, recess, lunch, and other school functions as needed.
  • Behavior Management: Encourage positive behavior and apply school behavior management techniques in accordance with school policies.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with students, staff, and teacher leaders to ensure a smooth transition between classroom teachers.
  • Documentation: Complete necessary administrative tasks, such as attendance records, notes for the regular teacher, and incident reports, as needed.



 

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field preferred).
  • Certification as a Substitute Teacher or completion of appropriate state/federal background check

Experience:

  • Prior experience working with children in a school, daycare, or similar setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with classroom management techniques and early childhood/elementary development.

Preferred Attitudes, Knowledge, and Skills

  • Ability to follow lesson plans and implement educational activities.
  • Flexibility to work on an as-needed basis, sometimes with short notice.
  • A valid background check/fingerprinting as required by the school district or state.
  • First aid and CPR certification (preferred but not required).
