Position: Speech Language Pathologist

Salary: $22,905 to $37,474 DOE (0.4 FTE)

Job Description: 

Full time employment at 0.4 FTE starting 2026-2027 school year. Speech Language Pathologists would serve schools in Stillwater and Sweet Grass Counties where services are needed. 

 

Academic Qualifications: 

Valid Montana Speech Language Pathologist License or able to obtain licesne

Master’s Degree in Speech/Language with C.C.C. or CFY

The Stillwater/Sweet Grass Special Services Cooperative serves 7 school districts and 5 county schools. The Cooperative’s office is based in Columbus, MT, just a short drive from Billings, MT, and Yellowstone National Park. The area we serve is rich in wildlife and there are many outdoor recreational activities to enjoy. The Beartooth and Crazy Mountains, along with small towns nestled near the Stillwater, Yellowstone and Boulder Rivers, create a breath -taking view for those of us who live and work here. 

 

The Cooperative employs 4 speech-language pathologists, 1 school psychologist, an occupational therapist, an itinerant special education teacher and a director. Cooperative car provided for driving between schools. Single health insurance provided including dental or a 403(b) option.

STILLWATER/SWEET GRASS COOPERATIVE JOB DESCRIPTION 

POSITION TITLE: SPEECH PATHOLOGIST 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. Master's Degree in Speech & Language Pathology 

2. Montana State License through Board of Speech & Language 

Pathologist & Audiologists or able to obtain license 

Reports To: Cooperative Director 

Job Goal: The Speech & Language Pathologist position is to identify students with communication disorders/disabilities; planning and implementing appropriate treatment to minimize adverse impact on student success by recommending treatment plans and providing direct therapy. 

Duties & Responsibilities:  

  1. Administer standardized and/or supplemental assessments for the purpose of identifying students with communication disorders. 
  2. Assesses student's communication skills (articulation, voice, expressive and receptive language etc.) for the purpose of identifying communication disorders, determining program eligibility and developing recommendations for treatment. 
  3. Consults with teachers, parents, and other personnel for the purpose of developing plans for service, making recommendations and or coordinating speech & language services with other special or related services. 
  4. Coordinates meetings and processes for determining qualification for eligible students ( Evaluation Plan, testing/screening, Evaluation Reports, IEP's, quarterly reports) for the purpose of presenting evaluation results and developing goals and objectives. 
  5. Designs therapeutic strategies for the purpose of modifying communicative behavior and/or identifying assistive devices. 
  6. Develops treatment plans, interventions, or other educational materials for the purpose of minimizing the adverse impact of communication disorders in compliance with Federal and State Law. 
  7. Instructs qualified students/teachers in the use of appropriate communication technologies (hearing aides, FM Systems, augmentative communication devices etc.) for the purpose of minimizing the adverse educational impact of communication disorders.
  8. If the situation would arise where a Speech Aide is hired the pathologist will direct the work of the Speech Aide in accordance with State Law for the purpose of ensuring that program objectives are achieved. 
  9. Maintains confidentiality for the purpose of protection of students, staff, parents and school district. 
  10. Maintains student files and/or records for the purpose of ensuring the 

availability of information as required for reference/compliance. 

  1. Maintains progress notes of each session. 
  2. Participates in Child Find Clinics as assigned by the Director. 
  3. Provides the needed documentation to allow the Cooperative to bill Medicaid, 

for Medicaid eligible students who receive speech & language services. 

  1. Maintain and update testing inventories as new and revised assessment tools 

become available. 

  1. Delivers a planned coordinated system of speech & language services. 
  2. Keep school administrators informed of activities in district being served.
