Full-Stack Developer Intern

About Us

We're a group of affiliated law firms and legal technology ventures building modern, tech-forward practices across estate planning, business transactional work, litigation, patent law, and AI-powered legal education. Interns joining us don't work inside a single silo — they plug into a connected ecosystem where legal work and product development happen side by side.

You'll be matched to the firm or platform that best fits your skills and interests, but you'll be part of a broader team that shares tools, ideas, and learning across all four entities.

  • Legacy First Law (LFL) — A boutique firm focused exclusively on estate planning and business transactional work. Wills, trusts, powers of attorney, entity formation, operating agreements, and contract work for families and closely held businesses.
  • Amicus Lex Law (ALX) — A litigation-oriented firm handling probate, estate pre-litigation, business pre-litigation, and personal injury matters. Fast-moving, strategy-driven, and focused on shaping outcomes before cases escalate.
  • Thaler IP Law — A patent firm with a dedicated AI patent practice. We handle the full patent lifecycle and specialize in the unique challenges of protecting machine learning systems, model architectures, and AI-enabled inventions.
  • Law School AI — An AI platform that teaches people about law and provides legal information without requiring them to attend law school. A product-first venture building AI-driven tools that make legal knowledge accessible to anyone.

Full-Stack Developer Intern

Build the tools that power our firms and the product that powers Law School AI.

What You'll Do

  • Build and maintain features across the frontend and backend of internal and client-facing applications
  • Translate business and legal workflow requirements into clean, maintainable code
  • Integrate AI capabilities (LLMs, embeddings, retrieval) into product features where they add real value
  • Collaborate with attorneys, operations, and other engineers to ship work that solves actual problems
  • Write tests, review code, and help maintain a codebase you'd be proud to hand to the next person
  • Document your work so someone else can pick it up without a fifteen-minute explanation

Where You Might Work

  • LFL: Client intake, document automation, and matter management for estate planning and transactional work
  • ALX: Case intake, matter tracking, and client communication across probate, pre-litigation, and PI practice areas
  • Thaler IP Law: Internal tools for patent prosecution, disclosure evaluation, and AI patent workflows
  • Law School AI: The product itself — core platform, user-facing features, and AI-driven learning tools

You're a Good Fit If You

  • Have strong coding fundamentals — comfortable across frontend and backend, not siloed in one layer
  • Have working knowledge of modern web frameworks (React, Next.js, or equivalent) and at least one backend language
  • Have hands-on experience with AI tools and APIs — you've actually built something with an LLM, not just read about it
  • Are comfortable with version control, code review, and working in a small team where your work ships
  • Are self-directed — you can take an unclear problem, ask the right questions, and come back with a plan

What We Offer

•  Real ownership of features, not ticket-closing grunt work

•  Direct exposure to how legal operations and technology actually fit together

•  Mentorship from engineers and attorneys who work closely together

•  Remote, flexible hours

•  A portfolio of shipped work to point to after the internship
