Employment Specialist

Employment Specialist – Full-Time | Hybrid | Ocean County, NJ

 

Schedule: Monday–Friday with flexibility to match participants’ work schedules; occasional weekends as needed
Work Location: Hybrid role combining office-based work with travel throughout the community to support job sites and individuals
Program Area: Vocational Services – Employment Supports
Status: Hourly, non-exempt

As an Employment Specialist, you’ll support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in securing and maintaining meaningful, competitive employment within their communities.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys blending coaching, outreach, and independent fieldwork while helping individuals achieve clear employment goals.

 

Key Responsibilities

Employment Support & Skill Building

  • Develop individualized employment plans based on each person’s strengths, preferences, and goals
  • Conduct intake sessions and contribute to interdisciplinary planning meetings
  • Provide one-on-one support with resumes, interview preparation, and job readiness
  • Deliver job coaching, pre-employment services, and ongoing workplace support
  • Reinforce workplace expectations such as scheduling, policies, and employer standards

Community Engagement & Employer Partnerships

  • Build and maintain relationships with local employers and hiring partners
  • Identify and develop new employment opportunities within the community
  • Advocate for individuals in workplace settings to promote long-term success
  • Support job transitions as goals or placements evolve

Documentation & Program Coordination

  • Maintain accurate and compliant documentation aligned with DVRS, DDD, CARF, DCF, DOE, and DOL standards
  • Provide regular updates on caseload activity to supervisors and referral sources
  • Ensure all records and reporting systems are current and complete
  • Manage weekly schedules to meet service delivery and billing requirements

Technology & Work Style

  • Utilize various platforms to provide services in person, remotely, and in hybrid formats
  • Assist individuals with accessing and using technology as needed
  • Work independently in the field while staying connected with team leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field required
  • Must be at least 20 years old
  • Valid New Jersey driver’s license in good standing (no more than 5 points)
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, including at least 1 year as a job coach (required)
  • Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities preferred
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule
  • Completion of required pre-service trainings through DVRS and DDD
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Successful completion of background checks and required clearances
