Construction Managent/Construction Inspector
Title: Construction Inspector / Construction Management Specialist – entry level
Location: Illinois (Chicago Metro and Statewide Projects)

Position Overview
We are seeking entry-level Construction Inspectors and Construction Management professionals to support major transportation projects, including roadway and transit infrastructure improvements.
This role is critical in ensuring quality assurance, compliance, and accurate documentation of contract quantities, with a strong emphasis on adherence to project policies, procedures, and documentation standards.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Inspection & Oversight
- Perform daily on-site inspections of construction activities including earthwork, paving, drainage, structures, and utilities
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with plans, specifications, and special provisions
- Monitor contractor operations for safety, quality, and compliance
Documentation of Contract Quantities (Critical Function)
- Accurately measure, calculate, and document contract quantities for all applicable pay items
- Maintain detailed and organized records to support progress payments and final quantities
- Prepare and review:
- Daily Inspection Reports (IDRs)
- Quantity calculations and summaries
- Field books and measurement records
- Verify contractor-reported quantities against field measurements
- Assist in preparation of pay estimates and final quantity reconciliation
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with project policies and procedures
- Utilize systems such as:
- Documentation templates and reporting standards
- Maintain accurate project documentation for audits and reviews
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with Resident Engineers, project managers, contractors, and design teams
- Communicate field issues, discrepancies, and potential impacts
- Participate in project meetings and progress discussions
Quality Assurance
- Verify materials meet specifications
- Coordinate testing and inspection activities
- Document deficiencies and track corrective actions
Required Qualifications
- 0-2 years of construction inspection experience on transportation projects
- Strong background in documentation of contract quantities and pay item tracking
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and contracts
- Strong math skills for quantity calculations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work in field environments
- Reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications
- IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities certification
- Proven experience with transportation projects and standards
- Familiarity with:
- IDOT Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction
- Construction documentation and reporting practices
- Experience with ICORS or similar construction documentation systems
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Experience on large-scale infrastructure or transit projects
Work Environment
- Primarily field-based with exposure to active construction sites
- May require night work, weekend shifts, or extended hours depending on project needs
- Combination of fieldwork and office/documentation tasks
