The Center for Jewish History (the Center) is the collaborative home of five in-house Partner organizations – AmericanJewish Historical Society,American Sephardi Federation, Leo Baeck Institute, Yeshiva University Museum, and YIVO Institute for Jewish Research – whose collections comprise over five miles of archival documents in dozens of languages and alphabet systems, over 500,000 volumes of books, almost 7 million digital items, and thousands of artworks and objects, all spanning 5,000 years.
The Center for Jewish History and its Partner institutions produce hundreds of public programs and events annually, including flagship panels, book releases, film screenings and talkbacks, concerts, theater productions, and other engagements exploring and illuminating Jewish history, culture, and heritage.
Position Overview
The Center for Jewish History is seeking an Intern to support our team with Excel‑based data work, reporting, and system updates. This role is ideal for a student who is comfortable working in Excel daily, enjoys working with structured data, and pays strong attention to detail.
The intern will assist with data entry, validation, and reconciliation tasks, including working with information from a general ledger or similar business system. This is a practical, hands‑on role supporting real operational data.
This program provides meaningful professional development, mentorship, and exposure to museums, library, archival, administrative, and nonprofit operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform data entry, updates, and cleanup using Microsoft Excel
- Build and maintain Excel files using formulas, sorting, filtering, and basic PivotTables
- Assist with data reconciliations and uploads related to a general ledger or accounting system
- Verify data accuracy and resolve basic discrepancies
- Track updates and communication progress via Microsoft Teams and Outlook
- Maintain organized file structures and documentation
- Provide general data and administrative support as needed
Required Skills
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Advanced functions, formulas, data cleanup, sorting/filtering; PivotTables)
- Comfort working with numeric or operational data
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Reliable follow‑through on assigned tasks
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally
Preferred Skills
Exposure to a general ledger or accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, Workday, Oracle, or similar)
Strong Microsoft Excel skills and general Microsoft Office skills (Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
Prior internship, part‑time role, or coursework involving data, operations, or admin tasks
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student. Majors such as Business Analytics, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Operations, Accounting, or Technology are a plus but not required
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Professional communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar tools
