Driver Guide Bus Tours

Drivers - Bus Tours/Sightseeing (Portland and Corbett, OR) - 2026

Driver Guides for Gray Line of Portland, the Waterfall Trolley, and Charter Coaches

For our sixteenth season of operation, we will be seasonally hiring several full-time and part-time drivers who take pride in their safe driving and providing quality tour experiences.  Road & Rail Travel, LLC operates tours and charters under the names of Gray Line of Portland, Pink Trolley Sightseeing, and Waterfall Trolley.

The Rose City Trolley Hop-On Hop-Off Tour includes loops of downtown Portland with guests embarking and disembarking at numerous stops. We require at least a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and 3 years of CDL experience. Tour narration is provided by a GPS-triggered narration system, which can be supplemented by the driver guide.   Guests will have the unsolicited opportunity to show their appreciation. The vehicles being used are rubber-tired trolleys patterned after San Francisco cable cars and are painted pink in support of breast cancer research. If you have the required license, skills, and attitude to show guests Portland, apply and share your love of the City this summer.

Our Gorge Explorer Tour is an all-day, 8-hour commitment that operates 4 days per week.  This tour is actually three tours on the same coach, with the guests doing different things at Multnomah Falls.  It involves two round-trip per day from Portland to Multnomah Falls. This tour on board one of our 35 or 40-foot coaches requires at least a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an air brake endorsement and 3 years of CDL experience. Tour narration is provided by a GPS-triggered narration system, which can be supplemented by the driver guide.  Guests will have the unsolicited opportunity to show their appreciation.

Our Waterfall Trolley, based in Corbett, is a Hop-On Hop-Off service with open trolleys.  The service starts in Corbett and operates on the Historic Highway to Ainsworth State Park, returning over the same route to Corbett.  The scheduled time for the one-way tour is 43 minutes.  Upon return to Corbett, there is a scheduled 26-minute break before the next trip if you are operating on schedule. The tour narration on board is prerecorded and GPS-triggered, so no narration is required, but announcing the stops and answering questions is part of the job.  Ticket sales are handled by sales staff in Corbett and, as needed, by the Driver Guide.  The drivers are required to observe that each guest boarding shows or is wearing their daily pass (it is a round green sticker).

In 2026, we are servicing two of the Lindblad cruise ships on the Columbia River with coaches.  It requires four drivers during the months of September and October.  It is 13 days on the road following the ship to Clarkson, WA and return.

We require at least a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brake Endorsement and 3 years of CDL experience. The Portland and Corbett tour vehicles are rubber-tired trolleys patterned after San Francisco cable cars.  The Corbett-based trolleys are a center-drive trolley where the driver sits in the center of the vehicle instead of the normal left driver orientation.  The ability of the driver to adapt to this center driver location will be part of the required road test. If you have the required license and the skills to show guests the Columbia River Gorge sites, apply and share your love of the area this summer.

You should have at least part-time seasonal availability during the summer and preferably from May 23 to September 13.  School bus drivers are encouraged to apply, as we can work around your availability constraints.  We do need four drivers to work through October for the Lindblad ships.

Interviews can be at your convenience. Interviews start Monday, April 22.   Driver testing and part-time training start shortly thereafter.  Once driver and tour training (at $20.00 per hour) has been completed, the hourly compensation will be $28.00 per hour.  Additionally, there is a 2% safety and longevity bonus, paid at the end of October, for those drivers who complete their seasonal commitment and who do not have an accident or incident during the season.

Gray Line of Portland is an Equal Opportunity Employer.  Pre-employment drug tests and driver records checks will be performed as required by law. Our insurance company must approve all driver guides before they are hired.   If you want more information, you may call our office Monday to Friday between 9 am and 1 pm at 503-241-7373.
