Athletics HR Intern
The Iowa Athletics Human Resources Student Intern will obtain real world experience and an understanding of the full cycle student employment process, HR policies and practices, federal/state employment requirements, HR transaction processing, etc. Successful interns will have the ability to transition into the Student Pathways Program offered through University Human Resources entering their senior year should they have an interest.
Job Details:
The Athletics Human Resources Student Intern will assist with:
- Maintaining ePersonnel files in HRIS
- Monitoring the shared Athletics Human Resources inbox responding or referring as appropriate
- Assisting with onboarding coordination, such as preparing materials and ensuring completion of required trainings
- Attending/participating in Athletics HR staff meetings
- Managing and organizing Athletics HR electronic files
- Running HR reports and conducting follow up as necessary
- Managing sports camp employee compliances and communications
- Initiate E-Verify cases and complete Form I‑9 documentation in compliance with all federal and state employment eligibility requirements for new Athletics employees
- Initiating select HRIS transactions (student job appointments, student pay raises, pay adjustments/student job code changes, terminations)
- Assist with creating/posting/ and monitoring 3-day temp job and student job postings
- Assisting with full cycle hiring process of FT Athletics interns
- Review of HR processes and procedures
- Other administrative duties as assigned
- Maintain confidentiality
Qualifications:
- Must be a current University of Iowa student entering their sophomore or junior year in Fall 2026, working towards a bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, or a related field
- The internship is required to be registered through the Pomerantz Career Center (https://careers.uiowa.edu/internships/registering-your-internship)
- Successful candidates will be subject to a criminal background check and required to self-disclose any conviction history.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships;
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to work interdependently and independently;
- Working knowledge of and ability to:
- Utilize basic office support software (word processing, email, presentation software and spreadsheets)
- Operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge and understanding of the professionalism and intensity necessary to successfully contribute to a Division I athletics program.
