Position Summary:   

The LMS Systems Operations Coordinator serves as the lead system administrator for UB Learns, the University at Buffalo’s learning management system (LMS) powered by D2L Brightspace. This position is responsible for ensuring that UB Learns functions with non-impactful interruption to faculty and students and managing third-party technology integrations into the LMS. This position collaborates daily with the UB Learns system management team, UB Continuing Professional Education (UB CPE) staff, and instructional design personnel to provide LMS end-user support to the university community. The LMS Systems Operations Coordinator works closely with university partners, including UB Information Technology, on system configuration and performance, support workflows and policies, and product review and evaluation. This position includes an 8–12 month period of shadowing, mentorship, and progressive responsibility under the guidance of the current Senior Programmer-Analyst.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities:

 

The position will receive training and mentorship from the UB Learns system administrator, with responsibilities progressively transferred over time, including:

 

  • Serve as UB’s lead LMS system administrator, including collaboration with vendor technologists and UB Enterprise Application Services (EAS) staff, to ensure uninterrupted and error-free LMS access and usage to faculty and students.
  • Manage integrations of third-party learning technologies into the LMS, including evaluating application needs and functions, addressing data safety and privacy concerns, and creating support policies.
  • Collaborate with university stakeholders to monitor and evaluate LMS configuration and support procedures, and update as needed, to ensure superior system performance and customer service.
  • Develop support policies and workflows and manage the creation and maintenance of support documentation and resources.
  • Collaborate with the CATT Instructional Support team to assist faculty in developing course content, designing assessments, and creating accessible instructional materials.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related area.
  • Three (3) years of experience administering, maintaining, and providing user support for a Learning Management System (LMS).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong preference for direct D2L Brightspace systems experience.
  • Experience in a higher education environment, particularly in supporting faculty and students with online learning needs.
  • Experience managing SaaS (Software as a Service) platforms and web-based applications, particularly handling user management and system configurations.
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems (e.g. TDX) for managing support requests and customer interactions.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information effectively to technical professionals and non-technical end-users.
