Programming Internship

Programming Internship

The Brooklyn Book Festival seeks motivated interns who are equally self-starters and team players and are interested in gaining experience producing a premier literary festival. The Brooklyn Book Festival is New York City's largest literary festival and will take place September 20 - September 28, 2026, with both in-person and virtual events. Interns will help with all aspects of the Festival’s key events, including the flagship Festival Day in Downtown Brooklyn, when more than 50-panel discussions and readings and 300 national and international authors are presented, the Virtual Festival Day, and the BKBF Children's Day, which celebrates childhood literature through readings, workshops, and author presentations.

Responsibilities: Interns assist the Festival’s Executive Producer and the Programming Manager with varied tasks, including providing administrative support, editing author bios, communicating with authors and publicists, compiling book lists, proofreading, adding content to the Festival’s app, and updating content on the Festival website.

Qualifications: Current college students, graduate students, or recent graduates who have the ability to work collaboratively in a busy office or work well independently when the office is remote. Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills are required. Strong candidates demonstrate working knowledge of Wordpress and content management systems (Airtable, Dropbox, Google Suite). The work schedule is busy, and being able to work with good humor under tight deadlines is an asset. And, of course, a love of books is very important!

Compensation: Interns are paid $18.50 an hour for a 12-week internship. Following the internship, successful candidates may be offered short-term, part-time work during the Festival week. Additionally, the internship allows candidates to build their portfolio and acquire professional resume-enhancing experience.

Internships require 15 hours per week, Monday through Friday (ideally three 5-hour days) between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM EST.

The position will be remote in June and July and in-person at a Brooklyn location in August. Due to this, the candidate must be based in a commutable location to Brooklyn.

Summer Internships: June 1 - August 21, 2026

Applications are due May 1, 2026

To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter explaining your interest and qualifications for the position. Applications that do not include the above two items will not be considered.
