Job description for summer 2026 intern

Intern – Discovery Biology

Manager: Jennifer Elechko

Expected duration: June 1 – September 25. Start and end flexible.

Anticipated weekly hours: ~40h

Nurix Therapeutics is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of small molecule therapies designed to modulate cellular protein levels as a novel treatment approach for cancer and immune disorders. Leveraging Nurix’s extensive expertise in E3 ligases together with its proprietary DNA-encoded libraries, Nurix has built DELigase, an integrated discovery platform to identify and advance novel drug candidates targeting E3 ligases, a broad class of enzymes that can modulate proteins within the cell. Nurix’s drug discovery approach is to either harness or inhibit the natural function of E3 ligases within the ubiquitin proteasome system to selectively decrease or increase cellular protein levels.  Nurix’s wholly owned pipeline comprises targeted protein degraders of Bruton’s tyrosine kinase, a B-cell signaling protein, and inhibitors of Casitas B-lineage lymphoma proto-oncogene-B, an E3 ligase that regulates T cell activation. Nurix is headquartered in Brisbane, California.

Position

We are seeking a motivated summer intern (an undergraduate majored in biology or related disciplines) to support some cell biology activities within the Discovery Biology group. This internship offers hands-on experience in organizing cell line inventory, performing standard cell culture methodologies and related techniques, such as JESS/Western blot, drug potency assay, and data analysis within a collaborative drug discovery environment.

  • Help with cell bank organization
  • Assist with routine maintenance of cell lines using aseptic techniques
  • Provide support for optimization and set-up of flow cytometry and Jess assays
  • Perform compound testing in established reporter assays to assess pathway inhibition
  • Data analysis and Communication:
    • Perform experimental data analysis under guidance
    • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the presentation and discussion of experimental results

Learning Opportunities:

  • Gain practical wet-lab skills in cell culture, molecular biology and cell biology assays
  • Learn to process and handle primary human immune cells
  • Build experience in experimental design and scientific communication
