Job Title: VETERINARY ASSISTANT Job #1128-1

Salary Range/Pay Rate: $35,100 - $38,600/annual (commensurate with experience) and excellent benefits package available. Benefits include health, dental, vision, retirement, 401K, flexible spending, paid holidays, employee discounts, and more.


The County is currently accepting applications for the position of Veterinary Assistant. This position consists of beginning level veterinary assistant work performing a variety of routine veterinary health care procedures on domestic animals including but not limited to: assisting the Veterinarian on assessing the health of animals on intake; providing daily medications and treatments to animals including injections and oral and topical medications; assisting the Veterinarian in performing diagnostic and medical procedures and surgery; monitoring anesthesia; documenting animal intake data into shelter software; monitoring populations of shelter through shelter software; and providing sign off oversight to daily cleaning crew of shelter.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Requires knowledge of accepted practices of animal care and handling; knowledge of laws, codes, and regulations pertaining to animal sheltering, veterinary care and controlled substances; knowledge of common diseases of animals, symptoms, and animal behavior; skill in the care and treatment of animals, handling animals, administering medications, and vaccinations; and ability to administer medication and injections to animals and to carry out treatments under the supervision of a veterinarian.


Requires a high school diploma and six months experience in an animal care field; administrative, public service, or customer service experience a plus. Associate’s Degree in animal care or veterinary assistant preferred.
