Student Assistant - Thompson-Peer Lab
The Thompson-Peer lab is looking to hire a current or incoming UCI undergraduate workstudy student to perform lab technician tasks to support our research. This is a part-time **job** and is not a research position.
Our lab uses the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster to study the nervous system. Responsibilities for this position are routine, and will include making fly food (following a recipe, pouring the food, packing it up for storage in the refrigerator), washing dishes, transferring flies to new food, and autoclaving fly waste. Applicants should be reasonably comfortable with insects as a model system (as long as you're not overly grossed out by flies in vials, that's all we need).
Technician may be asked to perform other organizational tasks on occasion as needed, like taking an inventory of chemicals. The technician would be welcome to sit in on our lab meeting, but that is not required, and this position will not include any independent research.
