PR & Communications Mentor
Remote Position: Volunteer/Unpaid
Time Commitment: ~15 minutes every week or so + monthly team call
Flexible schedule. Works with student interns and mentor team.
General Description:
The PR & Communications Mentor supports students in developing clear, effective messaging and outreach strategies. This role focuses on refining communication, strengthening brand voice, and guiding students in creating professional, audience-focused content.
This is a light advisory role designed for professionals who want to share expertise without a heavy time commitment.
Duties:
- Review and provide strategic, high-quality feedback on blogs, press releases, emails, and external outreach communications.
- Advise students on tone, clarity, messaging, and audience engagement to ensure effective and professional communication.
- Guide the development and execution of comprehensive communication. strategies and public relations campaigns.
- Support students in identifying target audiences, refining key messages, and aligning content with strategic objectives.
- Ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with established brand.
- Serve as a professional advisor and sounding board for messaging, content development, and campaign direction.
- Provide guidance on media outreach, pitching strategies, and building positive public narratives.
- Participate in scheduled check-ins and monthly team collaboration meetings to monitor progress and provide ongoing support.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Experience in public relations, communications, marketing, or journalism
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Ability to provide clear, constructive, and actionable feedback
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Interest in mentoring students
