HIPAA Compliance Consultant (Systems & Data Focus) – Contract, Part-Time, On-Site

We are hiring a hands-on HIPAA Compliance Consultant to review our systems, identify compliance risks, and help implement practical solutions.

Our system involves processing  clinical documentation, so this role requires someone who can assess real data flows and system behavior, not just policies.

What You’ll Do
Perform a HIPAA gap analysis across systems and workflows
Identify risks in PHI handling, storage, and transmission
Review data flow across internal processing pipelines
Provide clear, implementation-ready recommendations
Work directly with engineers to fix issues in real systems
Help establish audit-ready safeguards and documentation
What We’re Looking For
Proven experience with HIPAA compliance in real systems (required)
Ability to quickly identify compliance gaps and prioritize risk
Comfortable working with:
Backend systems / APIs
Cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure)
Security fundamentals (encryption, access control, logging)
Experience working directly with engineering teams
Ability to translate requirements into practical implementation steps
Strongly Preferred
Experience with systems that process or transform sensitive healthcare data
Familiarity with risks related to:
Data processing pipelines
Logging and caching of sensitive data
Data retention and storage controls
Experience preparing systems for HIPAA audit readiness
