Communications and Outreach Intern
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Crescenta Valley Water District (CVWD) is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Communications/Public Relations Intern to join the District on a part-time basis during summer 2026. This paid internship offers hands-on experience in public relations and community outreach within a public agency and is ideal for students pursuing a career in communications, public relations, public affairs, or environmental outreach.
As an intern, you will support the Districts’ public relations and community outreach efforts by assisting with the development and implementation of communication strategies that enhance public understanding of CVWD’s programs, projects, and services. You will gain practical experience working on a variety of public outreach activities, including social media content creation, video production, event coordination, and other communications initiatives.
This opportunity will also allow you to develop a deeper understanding of the role of public information in utility operations. Interns will receive mentorship and guidance from experienced utility professionals and gain exposure to monitoring legislation with potential impacts on the Districts’ operations.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
- Supporting communications and public relations efforts of the District;
- Assisting with the creation of flyers, promotional materials, and videos;
- Assist in creation and management of original social media content;
- Helping prepare presentations and coordinating outreach events, meetings, and tours;
- Maintaining or updating the District’s social media platforms and website;
- Assisting in the development of public outreach plans and strategies;
- Providing general interdepartmental support when necessary; and
- Other general administrative duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidates will reflect the District’s core values. In addition, the candidates will have the following:
- Completed or be pursuing a degree from a two or four-year institution in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations;
- The candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills, the ability to work effectively in a team environment;
- Have comprehensive computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
- Ability to accurately maintain files and public records;
- Possess strong interpersonal skills to work cooperatively and maintain effective working relationships with District managers, staff, customers, consultants, and representatives of other governmental agencies.
- Possess a valid California Class C driver license (or equivalent driver’s license issued by another state or territory within the United States.)
JOB SPECIFICS
Pay: $18 -$22/hour, depending on qualifications.
Approximate Duration: June 2026 – August 2026. Depending on school schedule, assignment may be extended.
Hours: Up to 20 hours per week between the hours of 7:00 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday
