Soils & Engineering Services, Inc., a locally-owned Madison, Wisconsin-based geotechnical engineering firm, is seeking to add a full-time team-oriented Field Technician to our staff. We are a small-sized company that works on large-scale projects, and our Field Technicians use their expertise to perform field and laboratory tests on soils and other materials, as well as supporting our drilling crews with sampling tasks.

This is a hands-on field role supporting a variety of geotechnical and construction activities. Work may include construction materials testing (CMT), drilling support, and excavation/installation observations. Responsibilities vary week-to-week based on active projects.

Responsibilities include:

· Sampling and testing soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt

· Observing and documenting field activities

· Obtaining samples for laboratory analyses

· Supporting drilling crews with soil sampling tasks

· Logging soils during geotechnical drilling operations

· Writing reports for completed projects

Requirements:

· Valid driver's license, ability to lift up to 75 pounds, and a willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

· At least two years of experience with construction materials testing

· Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

· Candidates should be comfortable performing physical work outdoors and adapting to changing project assignments.

Preferred qualifications:

· Degree in geology, earth sciences, or a related field

· Basic knowledge of soil classifications and soil mechanics

· Certifications in nuclear density gauge testing, transportation materials testing, and concrete/hot-mix asphalt testing — these certifications are required to perform the role; we will sponsor training for the right candidate
