Description
Upward Bound Math Science (UBMS) is seeking residential mentors for the 2026 summer program. This is a residential position, and staff are required to reside in the dorms for the duration of the program. Dates for this year’s program are planned for June 15-July 25, 2026. Applications will be accepted until positions are filled.
The Camp Mentor supports high school participants both academically and socially throughout the summer program. Responsibilities include supervising students and ensuring their safety, acting as a chaperone and driver for off-site field trips, monitoring academic progress, assisting with assignments and tutoring as needed, and planning and leading group activities that promote engagement and teamwork.
Salary: $16.00/hour - Housing and meals included

Responsibilities:
1. Must devote full time to the UBMS program and must not enroll in classes or hold another position during the weeks of the camp. Must reside in dorms for the duration of the program.
2. Demonstrate enthusiasm for learning and model appropriate behavior at all times.
3. Model respect for the diversity of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, economic status, opinion, and all other differences.
4. Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants at all times.
5. Perform duties as assigned by program administration and faculty.
6. Supervise program participants in the dormitory, classroom, during program activities and outings, and on weekend overnight trips.
7. Monitor and report on the academic progress of student participants.
8. Lead group activities.
9. Enforce and abide by all program and university policies and procedures.
10. Maintain a safe dormitory environment that is conducive to study.
11. Reside with program participants for the duration of the summer program.
12. Assist/tutor participants with assignments and studies.
13. Assist the Resident Director in planning and conducting evening and weekend recreational activities.
14. Complete assigned paperwork.
15. Attend program meetings as assigned by program administration.
16. Transport students to and from their home areas, on field trips, evening outings, and weekend road trips.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Ability to work in a 24/7 environment for six weeks.
2. Exhibit consistent positive temperament.
3. Current university student in good academic standing or recent graduate.
4. Previous experience working with high school students.
5. Exceptional communication skills.
6. A valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
1. Major in Education and minor in math or science, camp related experience
2. Advising or supervisory experience in a residence hall setting.
3. Lifeguard certification.
4. CPR, First aid, and/or First Responder certification.
5. Background similar to that of program participants.
6. Experience with outdoor recreation, fieldwork, and/or research.
