Digital Product Developer

Overview

  • Sunset and Sightline Media Group are seeking a Digital Product Developer with a creative, marketing‑minded approach to technology. This is not a traditional engineering role. We are looking for someone who can combine development skills with marketing awareness, content workflows, and digital product thinking.
  • The ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast‑moving media environment, is comfortable wearing multiple hats, and is excited to help improve how our brands publish content, generate leads, support advertisers, and build new digital products.
  • You will collaborate with editorial, marketing, sales, and product teams across our portfolio of brands including Sunset, Defense News, Military Times, and C4ISRNET.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain web features, integrations, and tools that support marketing campaigns, editorial publishing, and digital products
  • Assist with landing pages, marketing automation workflows, and audience growth initiatives
  • Develop small applications, scripts, and automation that improve internal workflows across departments
  • Support lead generation, analytics tracking, and CRM integrations
  • Design and maintain API connections and backend integrations between systems such as CMS platforms, marketing tools, analytics platforms, and internal databases
  • Help implement new digital products, newsletters, subscription features, and advertising initiatives
  • Troubleshoot website issues and assist with platform improvements
  • Work closely with editorial and marketing teams to bring ideas to life quickly
  • Help explore and implement AI tools and workflows that improve efficiency across the organization
  • Experiment with emerging technologies and automation to support innovation across our brands

What We’re Looking For

  • 3–5 years of development experience (web development preferred)
  • Strong familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern web frameworks
  • Solid understanding of APIs, backend integrations, and connecting multiple platforms and services
  • Experience working with CMS platforms, APIs, or marketing tools
  • Interest in digital marketing, audience growth, and media products
  • Curiosity about AI and emerging technologies, with enthusiasm for helping teams adopt practical tools and workflows
  • Comfortable working across multiple projects and departments
  • A creative problem‑solver who enjoys building solutions, not just writing code
  • Ability to move quickly, adapt, and take ownership in a small team environment
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate with non‑technical teams

Relevant Technologies

  • JavaScript, HTML, CSS
  • Node.js or Python for backend scripting and automation
  • REST APIs and API integrations
  • WordPress (themes, plugins, custom functionality)
  • HubSpot or CRM integrations
  • Marketing automation platforms
  • Google Analytics / analytics tracking implementations
  • Automation tools such as Zapier or Make
  • AI tools and APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.)
  • Git and modern development workflows

Bonus Skills (Nice to Have)

  • Experience with WordPress or other content management systems is a major plus, especially working with themes, plugins, and custom site functionality
  • Familiarity with SEO, audience growth strategies, or digital publishing workflows
  • Experience building internal tools or automation workflows
  • Background in media, publishing, or marketing organizations

Why This Role Is Unique

This position sits at the intersection of technology, marketing, and media. Instead of working on a single product, you will help shape digital initiatives across multiple well‑known brands and collaborate with teams across editorial, marketing, and product. For the right candidate, this role offers the opportunity to experiment, build quickly, explore AI and automation.
