JOB SUMMARY:
The Process Engineer Intern will support the production team in analyzing, documenting, and improving manufacturing processes within the facility. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in process improvement, data analysis, and operational efficiency while working on real-world projects. The intern will collaborate with various members of the production team to gain exposure to key manufacturing principles and contribute to meaningful process enhancements.
MAIN JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Process Improvement Support: Assist in identifying and analyzing, opportunities for efficiency improvements in production processes. Work with production team members to implement and document changes.
- Data Collection & Analysis: Gather and analyze production data to assess process performance, identify trends, and support decision-making for process optimization.
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) & Documentation: Help update and create process documentation, including SOPs, process flow diagrams, and work instructions.
- Project Assistance: Support ongoing process improvement projects by conducting research, preparing reports, and participating in team meetings.
- Root Cause Analysis: Assist in investigating production issues, identifying potential causes, and recommending corrective actions under the guidance of experienced production team members.
- Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams, including quality, production, and maintenance, to support operational goals and improve workflow efficiency.
EDUCATION:
Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering with emphasis in manufacturing, or a related field (junior or senior year preferred).
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Prior internship or coursework related to process engineering or food manufacturing is a plus but not required.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in manufacturing and process optimization.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or other data analysis tools.
Ability to work independently while taking direction from experienced production team members.
Eagerness to learn and apply lean manufacturing or Six Sigma concepts.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position almost constantly works in a manufacturing environment. Frequently working with moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and close quarters. Frequent exposure to allergens such as milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position frequently requires the use of hands, hearing/listening, talking, standing, walking, bending/stooping, climbing stairs/ladders, kneeling/squatting, reaching overhead, pulling/pushing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
