Role

Data Operations Intern

 

 

Job Location

Hybrid (at least two days/week in-office), for those based in Denver, CO; Dallas, TX; or Madison, WI. Willing to consider fully remote for the right candidate.

 

 

Start Date

Ideally, April/May 2026. Part-time hours (15-20 hours/week) during the academic year, with full-time hours available during the summer months. Role is planned through August 2026, with the opportunity for extension.

 

 

Role Overview

The Data Operations Intern will support Filene’s Technology team in maintaining and improving the quality, structure, and usability of data within the organization’s CRM system (Salesforce). This role focuses on strengthening CRM data accuracy, supporting reporting and dashboard improvements, and helping prepare Salesforce data for future data infrastructure initiatives.

 

The Data Operations Interns will assist with data hygiene efforts, identify opportunities to streamline reporting and data structures, and contribute to documentation that supports strong data governance practices. Through this work, the intern will gain hands-on experience with CRM systems, data management, and the role that high-quality data plays in supporting organizational decision-making.

 

 

Role Responsibilities

CRM Data Quality & Maintenance

  • Support ongoing Salesforce CRM data cleanup and maintenance, including updating CEO and executive contact changes, organizational mergers, and correcting missing or incomplete account and contact information.
  • Identify and resolve duplicate, outdated, or inconsistent records to improve CRM data quality and usability.
  • Assist with data hygiene initiatives, including standardizing fields, validating records, and ensuring consistent formatting across accounts, contacts, and related records.

 

Data Structure & Repository

  • Help prepare Salesforce data for an upcoming data repository project by identifying data gaps, organizing fields, and supporting documentation of data structures and standards.
  • Conduct CRM field audits to evaluate current field usage and identify redundant or outdated fields.
  • In collaboration with the Technology team, recommend opportunities to streamline and improve the CRM data model.

 

Reporting & Dashboard Optimization

  • Support the cleanup and optimization of Salesforce reports, list views, and dashboards by identifying unused or redundant items and helping simplify reporting structures.
  • Create and refine list views and reports to help internal teams access accurate and relevant CRM data.
  • Assist in maintaining and improving Salesforce dashboards to ensure they provide clear and actionable insights.

 

Process Improvement & Automation

  • Explore opportunities to automate data processes and improve CRM workflows, helping reduce manual maintenance and improve efficiency.
  • Research and evaluate ways to leverage emerging AI tools for CRM data management, such as data enrichment, duplicate detection, and process automation.

 

Organization & Documentation

  • Document data governance practices, reporting standards, and automation opportunities to support the long-term health and efficiency of Filene’s CRM system.
  • Support the technology team in maintaining clear documentation of CRM data structures, processes, and best practices.

Role Requirements

 

  • Candidate must be working toward a four-year degree or possess equivalent work experience in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, Statistics, or a related field. Note: This is not an exhaustive list. We welcome applicants from any major with an interest in data, technology, or analytics.
  • Strong technical skills, including familiarity with spreadsheets; Interest in data analysis, reporting, or business systems; Curiosity about AI tools and automation in business processes.
  • Prior experience with Salesforce or other CRM platforms preferred. 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to clearly organize and structure information.
  • Strong written documentation and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to actively manage projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Willingness to take initiative and work independently, while also contributing to a dynamic team.
