This position is part of the Student Intern Program and is a CIVILIAN position with the Department of the Army.

This position is being filled under the Direct Hire Authority for Post-Secondary Students and Recent Graduates.

The Student Intern Program offers post-secondary students 12 weeks of full-time employment, up to 480 hours, during the summer months. Employment dates will vary depending on when summer break begins for each college, however, the earliest start date is the end of May. Actual length of employment is contingent upon budget and workload. Employment is intended to continue each subsequent year during the summer months while the student is enrolled in a degree program.

As a Student Trainee (Biological Sciences and Natural Resources), the incumbent will work under closer supervision performing assignments and completing training. At the full-performance level, you will be expected to.

In this role you will:

  • Assist microbiology personnel with the collection of data in the field.
  • Perform various activities related to the safe operation of biological safety level (BSL) 1 and 2 laboratories.
  • Review office files, published reports, and materials held by other agencies to obtain sufficient information for possible use in preparation of biological data reports, species accounts, or related assessments..
  • Assist senior personnel with the setup, teardown, transportation, and operation of mobile laboratories to include coordination with various logistical components and submission of the required paperwork.
  • Assist senior personnel with required function checks for all microbiological analytical equipment and reporting of all noted deficiencies.
