Clinical Research Intern

The Massachusetts General Hospital Dauten Family Center for Bipolar Treatment Innovation (DCBI) is seeking applicants for a Clinical Research Intern (CRI) position. The aim of the DCBI is to evaluate psychiatric and psychosocial treatments for bipolar disorder, to learn more about the causes and general course of this disorder, and to investigate the pathophysiology of the condition with neuroimaging and other biological markers. Our clinic participates in large-scale, multi-site, NIMH, industry, and privately-sponsored initiatives.

 

CRIs will conduct a wide range of research activities within the DCBI. Typical tasks include:

  • Calling, screening, and summarizing extensive and ongoing studies
  • Conducting literature reviews for project development and bibliographical support for publications
  • Assisting with reorganization and cleaning of datasets
  • Assisting with IRB and grant proposal preparations
  • Performing clerical duties related to research tasks
  • Presenting short talks on relevant clinical and research topics to the DCBI staff
  • Indirect patient contact will be granted through observing clinical interviews and scoring subsequent clinical and neuropsychiatric assessments
  • Present posters at local and national conferences

 

The CRI will be encouraged to attend speaking engagements and hospital training on a variety of topics including fMRI safety training, phlebotomy, statistics, etc. This position is intended as an academic and experiential learning opportunity for students.

 

The CRI will primarily work on research projects that include, but are not limited to, psychosocial interventions (e.g., mindfulness-based, cognitive behavioral, lifestyle changes), medication-based trials (e.g., new medications, dose-response, examination of a side effects), online and mobile phone based studies.

 

We are seeking students excited about the field of mood disorders, eager to learn more, creative in their pursuit of knowledge, and able to think critically as they take on new tasks simultaneously. Candidates should have knowledge of basic statistical methods as well as a willingness to learn. Experience with REDCap, Excel, R, SPSS, and EndNote (or similar citation managers) are a plus, but not required. Previous clinical experience and familiarity working with datasets (even in a classroom setting) are also preferred. Please note that CRIs will be required to come in-person for a few hours on Wednesdays.
