Plymouth Church School is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and caring individual to join our warm and inclusive community as the Toddler Program Head Teacher. We offer a highly competitive salary and a very supportive work environment.
Reports to: Director of Plymouth Church School and Associate Director of Admissions, Family Engagement and First Programs
Position Summary: Serve as the head teacher for Plymouth’s longstanding Time for Twos program. Create a warm and supportive learning environment for Time for Twos classes that guides toddlers to grow in all developmental domains and encourages independence as children begin a gentle separation experience from their parent or caregiver (who must remain in the classroom or nearby for the duration of the class). Plan, organize, implement and lead new developmentally appropriate infant and toddler programming initiatives.
Major Responsibilities:
Time for Twos
•
Serve as the head teacher for Plymouth’s longstanding Time for Twos program.
•
Prepare and maintain a learning environment and daily schedule that appropriately challenges all developmental domains for a toddler (socioemotional, fine motor, gross motor, etc.).
•
Ensure that daily curriculum is progressing in a meaningful way across the school year.
•
Establish developmentally appropriate boundaries that are in accordance with the philosophy of the school.
•
Communicate with parents and caregivers about how they can support their child in the classroom, support the teacher with snack and clean up, and encourage separation when appropriate.
•
Prepare for and meet with all parents formally once a year (for a mid-year check in) as well as if any issues arise.
•
Develop a gentle separation phase in schedule and communicate openly with parents and caregivers about the gentle separation plan. Support families through the gentle separation process.
•
Meet regularly with the Associate Director of Admissions, Family Engagement and First Programs, including dedicated meetings to discuss admissions for children who are applying to Plymouth for the following year.
•
Attend all full staff meetings prior to the start of school and attend end of year meetings (second week of June) to discuss children from Time for Twos who will be attending Plymouth the following year.
First Years Programming
•
Work closely with the Associate Director of Admissions, Family Engagement and First Programs to create new, developmentally appropriate infant and toddler programming initiatives and serve as the head teacher for these new programming initiatives.
•
Coordinate scheduling for new programming including the recruitment of potential staff.
•
Develop relationships with children in a warm and respectful manner.
•
Build classroom communities that are inclusive of all children.
•
Build relationships grounded in trust and collaboration with the parents and caregivers.
•
Serve as primary point person for parent communication (i.e., communicate with parents regarding school closings, schedule changes and with any questions or concerns).
•
Leave the classroom in good working order each day. Materials should be put away, toys and table surfaces cleaned with weak bleach solution, and chairs stacked.
•
At the end of the year, wash and inventory all classroom materials. In consultation with the Associate Director of Admissions, Family Engagement and First Programs order new furniture and materials as needed for the next school year.
The First Years Head Teacher is a full-time, ten-month position for the 2026-27 school year.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate must have a BA from an accredited college or university, have experience working with young children, a positive attitude, a warm and caring demeanor and a willingness to learn and be flexible. MA preferred but not required.
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary Range: $65,000 - $80,000
