Wes Reads/ Wes Math Coordinator-JCCP

Position Summary

The Jewett Center for Community Partnerships is looking for students to lead and coordinate the work of our civic and community engagement focused student groups. JCCP is committed to supporting student groups that partner with community partners, and/or who work on civic engagement related initiatives. JCCP coordinators recruit, train, and support the student interns and volunteers that staff JCCP groups. Coordinators are critical to the supervision, historical tracking, and long-term viability of our partnerships and strengthen Wesleyan’s relationships in the community around us. Students working as JCCP Coordinators will develop key organizational management, volunteer management, project coordination, and civic engagement skills. WesReads/WesMath provides in-class assistance for reading and math in grades K-5 at local elementary schools and afterschool programs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend all JCCP required staff trainings
  • Attend monthly supervision meetings with JCCP staff
  • Recruit and hire student and volunteer staff for JCCP student groups
  • Train students, and coordinate trainings for students, that will enhance their participation in JCCP student groups
  • Promote events and student groups
  • Host regular student group meetings
  • Manage and grow relationships with community partners
  • Mediate issues with staff
  • Support our staff in scheduling vans and transportation to and from student group activities
  • Collaborate with JCCP staff, other on-campus units, Wesleyan student groups, and community partners to plan programs and events.
  • Participate in JCCP sponsored events as requested

 

Eligibility

  • Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student at Wesleyan University.
  • Students may only work in one JCCP position at a time.
  • Applicants cannot be currently studying abroad.
  • All applicants will be considered, regardless of work-study eligibility.

Schedule & Availability

  • This position lasts the Academic Year, with the potential to be re-hired the following year
  • 10 hours per week, including bi-weekly supervisory meetings with JCCP staff and monthly coordinator meetings.

  • Supervisor conducts monthly supervision meetings, and will conduct a performance review discussion at the end of the semester.
