Special Education Teacher
Purpose of Position: Develop and provide specially designed instruction to eligible students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communicate results of assessment, classroom observations and teaching strategies to IEP team
- Prepare draft IEP and attend all IEPT meetings for students assigned with particular attention to ensuring educational benefit via skill-based goals and progress monitoring
- Responsible for the implementation of specially designed instruction for each student assigned, develop student performance objectives and maintain documentation such that instructional methods are consistent with the IEP
- Facilitate Functional Behavioral Assessments and assist in writing positive support plans for students with significant in-school behavioral problems
- Implement standard assessment, progress monitoring and recordkeeping procedures for each student to include student information systems and monthly Medicaid billing
- Maintain all necessary recordkeeping procedures for the student's IEP, lesson plans, attendance records, classroom equipment and supplies inventories, behavioral data, etc. and provide documentation as requested by supervisor(s)
- Provide direction and supervision for instructional aides assigned to the classroom and participate directly in their job performance evaluations with the staff supervisor. Assist in day-to-day training of instructional aides
- Maintain ongoing communication and positive working relationship with parent(s)/guardian(s), community agencies and ISD/LEA staff
- Coordinate classroom staff meetings and actively participate in assigned School Improvement activities
- Maintain high degree of confidentiality in program operation and with student/staff information
- As needed for completion of duties, attend meetings outside of normal working hours and travel within ISD and state
- Remain free of substance abuse and/or illegal drug use at all times
- Other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor
