TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
10 month Professional Faculty Position (191 days)
Salary and benefits as negotiated through the Collective Bargaining Agreement
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree with valid PA certification in at least ONE of the following:
- 8405 Science – Biology 7-12
- 8420 Science – Chemistry 7-12
- 8440 Science – Earth and Space 7-12
- 8450 Science – General Science 7-12
- 8470 Science – Physics 7-12
- Bachelor’s Degree with valid PA certification in Computer Science 7-12
WORK ENVIRONMENT
A member of the faculty works directly with students assigned to instructional classes and through duties or other assignments per the discretion of the administration. Additionally, they work in collaboration with the professional and support staff at the HS. A member of the Science department will work with other faculty members within the department across the district as appropriate. Additionally, they will work with district administration, district support staff, community members, parents and other people as associated with the district.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Computer Science teacher is expected to have specialized knowledge in a specific area of science corresponding to their certification. This knowledge base varies depending on the disciplinary focus. Teachers are responsible for planning and executing instruction and pupil supervision following district priorities, policies, and procedures
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
Professional Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver through effective instruction alignment to district approved curriculum
- Create engaging and hands-on learning experiences suitable to the knowledge, skill, understanding and transfer goals within the discipline of the Science curriculum.
- Stay abreast of technology integration as a meaningful tool for the continued learning and engagement of students
- Understand the essential functions of teaching and learning as described throughout the Danielson framework for Evaluation
- Build a safe and productive learning environment for all students to differentiate and personalize instructional needs
- Incorporate assessment strategies and methodology that reflect evidence based practice in monitoring and analyzing student learning
- Collaborate with faculty and instructional coaching staff on continuous growth and improvement in practice
- Perform duties as assigned through building and district administration
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KSA):
Knowledge
- A strong foundation in the core science discipline specific to certification areas (i.e., biology, chemistry, physics, and Earth/environmental sciences, computer science). This includes understanding key concepts, scientific inquiry, and the scientific method.
- Familiarity with the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for Science and Technology
- Understanding how students learn best, including different learning styles and effective instructional approaches.
Skills:
- Plan, develop and implement differentiated lessons aligned with district approved curriculum
- Modeling (demonstrating) hands-on activities and equipment essential to instructional goals
- Integrating technology tools and resources into instructional design and practice
- Able to communicate with range of stakeholders including students, parents, colleagues, administrators and community members
- Problem solving and critical thinking
- Data analysis related to assessment results and ongoing student learning needs

- Manage classroom environment inclusive of safety and student learning needs
- Build positive relationships with students, colleagues and administration
- Commit toward ongoing continuous improvement and lifelong learning
- Clearly presenting complex information to middle school students.
