Are you passionate about Long Island high school sports and the stories that bring communities together?
We’re looking for a Local High School Sports Assistant Editor to help lead coverage of Nassau and Suffolk County athletics across print, digital, social, and live community platforms. This role will drive fast-paced coverage of football, basketball, lacrosse, baseball, soccer, championships, athlete features, and breaking sports news.
What You’ll Do
- Lead daily and seasonal high school sports coverage across Long Island
- Assign, edit, and write game recaps, features, rankings, and playoff previews
- Build strong relationships with coaches, athletic directors, schools, and local sports communities
- Manage freelance writers, photographers, and contributors
- Deliver fast digital and print deadline coverage, especially nights and weekends
What We’re Looking For
- 1-2 years of sports journalism or newsroom editing experience
- Strong knowledge of Long Island high school athletics preferred
- Excellent writing, editing, AP style, and headline skills
- Digital publishing, SEO, and social media experience
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and travel throughout Nassau and Suffolk
- Reliable transportation required
