The Upstate Sound Music Group – Miami [Latin Entertainment Division]

As an A&R (Artist & Repertoire) Assistant Intern, you will support our Latin Entertainment Division in discovering and developing new musical talent. This internship offers hands-on experience in the inner workings of a modern record label, tailored for students pursuing careers in the music industry.

✨ Responsibilities

Talent Scouting & Development

  • Assist in identifying emerging musical talent through online platforms and live performances.
  • Attend showcases, events, and industry gatherings (virtually or in person) to scout potential artists.
  • Stay updated on trends in Latin music and broader genres to spot marketable talent.

Demo Review & Research

  • Listen to demo submissions, prepare summaries, and offer constructive feedback to the A&R team.
  • Conduct market research to identify target audiences and analyze industry trends that impact signing decisions.

Communication & Relationship Building

  • Liaise with artists, managers, and producers to facilitate the artist development process.
  • Build and maintain relationships within the music community to expand the label’s network.

Social Media & Promotion Support

  • Help manage A&R social media initiatives, engage with the music community online, and support promotional efforts for artists.
  • Collaborate with marketing to brainstorm campaign ideas for developing talent.

Event Coordination

  • Assist in planning and executing artist showcases, writing camps, and listening sessions.

Administrative Support

  • Provide occasional administrative assistance (not exceeding 20% of responsibilities), such as helping schedule meetings or maintain artist databases.

  • Duration: Internship is structured with a defined start and end date, determined upon acceptance.
  • Hours: Part-time hours arranged to meet academic credit requirements.

  • Enrolled in or recently completed a degree in Music Business, Music Production, or a related field.
  • Strong passion for music, particularly Latin and popular genres, with awareness of current trends.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical listening skills and ability to give constructive feedback.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to balance multiple tasks.
  • Comfortable with social media, digital music platforms, and general tech tools.
  • Willingness to network and build professional relationships.
  • Understanding of basic music industry concepts, contracts, and the role of A&R.

Interns will be directly mentored by our Regional A&R Manager Karla, and the CEO of The Upstate Sound Music Group, David, who together bring over 10 years of combined experience in artist development, talent scouting, and music business strategy. Interns will participate in regular one-on-one meetings to receive feedback, discuss progress, and explore career pathways in the music industry.
