KL International School of Chongqing Bashu (KLIS) is a nonprofit, coeducational international school located in Chongqing, China. Founded in 2015, KLIS is currently accredited by Cognia, serves approximately 170 students from PreK through Grade 12, and provides a comprehensive American-style education designed to prepare students to become global citizens, creative thinkers, and ethical leaders.

Role Summary

The Human Resource Generalist is a key member of the HR team, responsible for managing the day-to-day support and administration of international staff, leading and supporting the full international recruitment cycle, fostering a cross-culturally inclusive school environment, and advancing the school’s diversity and brand. This role partners closely with school leadership to build a professional, standardized, and people-centered system for international talent acquisition and retention.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. International Employees Management & Support

  • Design and continuously refine a structured onboarding program for incoming international staff, covering administrative procedures, school culture, local living orientation, and role-specific expectations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for international staff on day-to-day HR matters, providing timely and practical support throughout their tenure.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with international staff; proactively gather feedback, address concerns promptly, and implement improvements to enhance satisfaction and retention.
  • Liaise with legal and compliance advisors on complex employee relations issues, contract matters, and sensitive HR cases.
  • Monitor relevant policy and regulatory changes (including labor law and foreign employment regulations); assess their impact and update internal processes to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Communicate policy updates and procedural changes clearly to international staff, ensuring understanding and adherence.

2. International Employees Recruitment

  • Collaborate with school leadership, academic team and HR team to develop and execute the annual international recruitment plan, including role scoping, timelines, and sourcing channel strategy.
  • Support and contribute to the end-to-end recruitment process, including job posting, candidate sourcing, screening, interviewing, offer negotiation, and contract signing.
  • Maintain candidate relationships and build a sustainable, high-quality international talent pipeline.
  • Assist in optimizing sourcing channels, candidate tracking, information management systems, and evaluation frameworks.

3. Cross-Cultural Support & Inclusive Environment

  • Serve as a cultural bridge between the school and its international community, facilitating mutual understanding, open communication, and constructive conflict resolution across cultural differences.
  • Provide individualized support to international staff navigating cultural adaptation, helping them feel welcomed, respected, and integrated into school life; assist school leadership in understanding and responding to the international staff community's needs.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of cross-cultural orientation and training programs for both international and local staff.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to design and implement initiatives that build and sustain an inclusive, equitable, and diverse school environment where all community members feel a sense of belonging.

4. Diversity, Internationalization & School Branding

  • Support the development of KLIS's employer brand and external communications, including content creation and outreach within the international education community.
  • Represent the school at recruitment fairs, industry events, and forums to expand the school's network and visibility.
  • Advance the school's narrative of culture, values, and goals through data tracking, storytelling, and thought leadership opportunities.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or above (Education, Human Resources, International Relations, Communications, or a related field preferred).
  • 2+ years of professional experience, with at least 1 year in international recruitment or cross-border talent acquisition.
  • Fluent in English, particularly in the context of K–12 international education; professional Chinese proficiency preferred.
  • Strong cross-cultural communication skills and proven ability to collaborate effectively across diverse cultural contexts.
  • Highly self-directed and organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Preferred

  • Prior experience in K–12 international school recruitment.
  • Familiarity with Chinese labor law, foreign employment regulations, and relevant procedures.
  • Personal experience living or working in multicultural or international team environments.
  • Proficiency with international education recruitment platforms (e.g., Search Associates, Schrole).
  • Background in counseling, cross-cultural training, or conflict mediation.
