Virtual English and History Tutor (High School)

Responsibilities:

As an OPEN EDvantage English and History Tutor, your key duties will comprise:

  • Cultivating effective study habits and time management techniques for optimal learning.
  • Guiding students in organizing and prioritizing their paramount assignments and projects.
  • Empowering students with essential self-advocacy skills, guiding them on effectively communicating with teachers for clarity and support.
  • Simplifying intricate class content, ensuring students grasp concepts with ease and understanding.
  • Ensuring students consistently stay aligned with their assignment schedules and deadlines.
  • Providing regular updates to parents on their child's academic progress.
  • Instructing students on crafting compelling thesis statements and seamlessly integrating supporting evidence.
  • Encouraging a comprehensive understanding of historical events, steering away from rote memorization.
  • Imparting advanced writing techniques to students, emphasizing adherence to the MLA format.
  • Strategically preparing students for successful test performances.

Requirements:

To thrive in this role, the following qualifications are indispensable:

  1. A cumulative experience of 2 or more years in tutoring English, History, or a related educational domain.
  2. A commitment to dedicating 4-6 hours weekly for tutoring sessions, typically scheduled between 2 pm and 9 pm on weekdays. Weekend availability will be advantageous.
  3. A steadfast commitment to the academic calendar, spanning from August to early June.

Essential Skills:

  • Literary Acumen: A solid grasp over literary concepts, with the ability to inspire an appreciation for varied literary works in students.
  • Historical Insight: Profound knowledge of world history, with a flair for narrating events in an engaging manner, fostering genuine interest among students.
  • Essay Guidance: Mastery in guiding students on structuring essays, honing arguments, and citing historical or literary evidence effectively.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to cultivate analytical and critical thinking in students, especially when interpreting texts or historical events.

Interview Process:

Our rigorous selection process entails:

  1. Initial Interview: A thorough evaluation of your expertise in English literature and history, ensuring alignment with our educational ethos.
  2. Interview 2: Conduct a simulated virtual tutoring session with team member to demonstrate your teaching abilities and instructional techniques.
  3. Interview 3: Conduct a simulated virtual tutoring session with a panel to demonstrate your teaching abilities and instructional techniques.
  4. Background Check: To uphold the safety of our student community, successful candidates must undergo and clear a personal background verification.
