Social Media Intern

Position Title: Social Media Intern (Part‑Time)

$15/hour | Flexible schedule | Resume‑ and portfolio‑building experience

Location: Las Vegas, NV 
Supervisor: Director of Field Services (or designee)
Employment Type: Part‑Time Internship
Time Commitment: Approximately 10 hours per week
Compensation: $15.00 per hour
Schedule: Flexible; occasional evening or weekend hours may be needed to support events

Position Overview

The Las Vegas Area Council (LVAC), Scouting America is seeking a creative, reliable, and motivated Social Media Intern to help tell the story of Scouting across our digital platforms. This role supports day‑to‑day social media content creation and engagement while providing real‑world experience for a student or early‑career candidate interested in marketing, communications, or digital media.

This internship is designed as a hands‑on learning opportunity, with guidance and mentorship provided by council staff.

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation & Posting

  • Assist with creating and scheduling social media content for council platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Help draft captions, select photos, and edit short‑form videos.
  • Ensure content aligns with Scouting America branding, values, and guidelines.

Engagement & Community Support

  • Monitor comments and messages and flag or respond as directed.
  • Support campaigns related to recruitment, events, fundraising, and program promotion.
  • Help identify trends or content ideas based on audience engagement.

Collaboration & Organization

  • Work with staff and volunteers to collect photos, stories, and event highlights.
  • Assist in maintaining a simple content calendar.
  • Track basic engagement metrics (likes, reach, followers) and help summarize results.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in college, or a recent graduate.
  • Experience using social media platforms (personal or organizational).
  • Strong writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic familiarity with graphic design tools (Canva or similar) and/or video editing apps preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the LVAC Office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework or interest in marketing, communications, graphic design, or media.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
  • Prior Scouting experience helpful but not required.

Work Conditions

  • Combination of office work and occasional field/event coverage.
  • Light physical demands; extended computer and mobile device use.
  • Some evening or weekend hours may be required for events or timely postings.
