Accounting Billing Intern

POSITION TITLE:  Accounting / Billing Intern for Summer 2023

 

Hours: 15-29 hours per week during the summer; opportunity could be extended into the Fall semester, and has the potential to lead to full-time employment. This is a paid internship.

 

Job Summary: 

Position is ideal for a student who is pursuing a BS in Accounting to gain a broad range of practical work experience.  The agency has partnered with local universities for over 15 years and has helped candidates successfully develop and further their professional careers.  College course credit may be available for the internship experience.  Our offices are conveniently located close to both East Tennessee State University and Milligan University. Hours of operation are 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday.

 

This position includes general accounting functions of the Agency as may be required by federal, state, and local authorities:  e.g., accounts payable, inventory control, preparing spreadsheets, and financial reports. 

 

Responsibilities:
The Accounting/Billing Intern is responsible for assisting with general accounting/financial duties, including but not limited to:

 

  1. Reconciliation of driver revenue from fare collections.

  2. Audit of over/short/ late revenue per audit finding guidelines.
  3. Verification of operational data per reporting guidelines.
  4. Responsible for processing billing for multiple funding sources.
  5. Responsible for reconciling payments, identifying/correcting any discrepancies. Reporting outstanding revenue to the fiscal department on a monthly basis.
  6. Performs payroll audits comparing data between two systems to ensure compliance by employees.
  7. Processes ticket orders, prepaid fares, and prepaid fare refunds while providing a high level of customer service.
     

  8. Abides by FTHRA Personnel Rules and Regulations as may be amended from time to time.

Experience and Education:

 

Must have knowledge of accounting theories and practices; possess knowledge of personal computers and accounting systems.  Working toward completion of at least 2 years of college or an Associate’s degree.
