Student Ministries Associate Position Description
DESCRIPTION OF STUDENT MINISTRIES:
The Student Ministries Associate is a full-time, 32 hours per week, paid position at Modesto Covenant Church in Modesto, California. This position is an ideal position for a recent college graduate who is discerning or pursuing a vocational call to ministry. A college degree that includes biblical coursework, along with relevant ministry experience, is strongly preferred. We ask the Student Ministries Associate to make a two-year commitment to this role, dedicating their time and service to God’s kingdom work while discerning their gifts and calling in vocational ministry. This is a great position to learn, develop gifts, confirm a calling, and then after a two-year commitment at Modesto Covenant Church to pursue seminary education or a pastoral position at another church!
Student Ministries at Modesto Covenant Church is led by the Student Ministries Pastor. The Student Ministries Pastor provides overall leadership for the ministry, with a primary focus on high school students. The Student Ministries Associate is an intern-type position with primary oversight of Junior High ministry. Each week, the youth group welcomes approximately 70 students. The Student Ministries Associate is expected to participate in all youth events, and to regularly engage with Modesto Covenant’s Young Adults group for fellowship and discipleship opportunities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary responsibility of the Student Ministries Associate will be to assist the Student Ministries Pastor in the following areas of ministry:
TEACH
Teach at the weekly youth group on a monthly basis and as needed, as well as during Sunday School/Confirmation.
RECRUIT/TRAIN/SUPPORT LEADERS
Assist the Student Ministries Pastor in recruiting, developing, and equipping quality volunteer leaders for the Student Ministries team, while also training and mentoring student leaders.
DEVELOP DISCIPLESHIP MINISTRIES
Initiate, plan, supervise and delegate discipleship activities in alignment with MCC’s core values of Mission, Christ, and Community including:
- Weekly youth group
- Sunday school/Confirmation
- Retreats
- Mission trips and local mission experiences
- Additional events or activities
OUTREACH AND EVANGELISM
Coordinate and lead local outreach and mission opportunities, creating meaningful ways to connect with and share Christ’s love with students beyond the church community.
PASTORAL CARE
Pursue authentic relationships with students, offering ongoing spiritual encouragement and biblically based guidance.
PERSONAL CARE
Participate in ongoing meetings with a mentor, spiritual director, or senior staff member to foster personal growth and spiritual guidance.
ADMINISTRATION
- Meetings: Attend weekly staff meetings with the pastoral and administrative team.
- Database Management: Maintain the student database by printing out attendance sheets, marking weekly attendance, and keeping contact information up to date.
- Event Support: Assist in planning and executing events by purchasing supplies with the Student Ministries Pastor’s approval, recruiting volunteers and drivers, maintaining driver paperwork in accordance with MCC Transportation Policies, and collecting medical release forms for students.
- Ministry Expenses: Manage ministry expenses by tracking costs, submitting receipts, and processing check requests.
- Youth Group Preparation: Assist in opening and closing facilities, setting up games & activities, support the student worship team with sound and lyrics, and prepare slides for announcements and evening message as needed.
- Resources & Engagement: Help leverage curriculum resources and communication tools including graphics, social media, and parent communications to strengthen student learning and engagement.
COMMUNICATIONS AND SOCIAL MEDIA
Assist the Student Ministries Pastor in:
- Maintaining and updating social media accounts on a regular basis to engage students and the church community.
- Designing and producing publications, including brochures and postcards.
- Sharing a calendar of events with the church and parents.
- Communicating consistently with parents to keep them informed of all Student Ministries activities.
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Meet weekly with the Student Ministries Pastor for guidance, support, and collaboration.
- Participate in weekly pastoral staff meetings.
- Actively cultivate a growing personal relationship with God.
- Attend and engage in PSWC denominational meetings or retreats as scheduled.
INVOLVEMENT OUTSIDE OF STUDENT MINISTRIES
- Participate in and support the Young Adults ministry by attending weekly meetings and events on Monday evenings.
- Occasionally attend Wednesday Night Clubs to engage and connect with incoming 6th graders entering Student Ministries.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Base Salary Range: $20-$24/hours for 32 hours/week, totaling $33,280-$39,936/year, depending on experience (as a non-exempt employee, overtime pay is given for weekend retreats or events with prior authorization of Lead Pastor)
Health Benefits: Individual medical, dental, vision, and disability (Premiums paid in full by Modesto Covenant Church. No employee contribution required other than copays or deductibles)
VACATION/DAYS OFF
Annual paid vacation time of 64 hours per year
Additional 64 hours of paid sick time available per year (9 days)
MOVING EXPENSES
Reimbursement up to $2,000 for expenses to move to Modesto, to include transportation of personal belongings and travel expenses to Modesto. Receipts must be submitted.
