Family Law Paralegal
About The Role:
The Family Law Paralegal will work directly with our attorneys to manage case files, prepare pleadings, organize and analyze discovery, and serve as a key point of contact for clients. This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of three days per week in our Northfield office, with the flexibility to work remotely the remaining days.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft, proofread, and file pleadings, motions, and other legal documents for Cook County, Lake County and surrounding counties
- Prepare financial affidavits, asset and liability schedules, and discovery responses in dissolution and support matters
- Organize and maintain case files, deadlines, and court calendars using the firm's case management system
- Coordinate and communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel in a professional and timely manner
- Assist attorneys in preparing for hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials, including exhibit organization
- Conduct legal research and summarize relevant case law and statutory updates as directed
- Process incoming discovery, organize document productions, and maintain privilege logs
- Support attorneys with post-decree matters including enforcement, modification petitions,
- Perform general administrative tasks as needed to support a smooth-running practice
Required Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Illinois domestic relations statutes and court filing procedures
- Proficiency with legal case management software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational ability
- Associate's degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Smokeball
- Experience with high-asset or complex dissolution matters
- Familiarity with Cook County and Lake County e-filing systems
- NALA or ABA approved paralegal certification
- Experience with trial/hearing preparation
- Background in client-facing roles requiring discretion and empathy
