Security Officer I and Officer II

DESCRIPTION:
The Security Officer aids in providing the day-to-day security operations in providing a safe environment and College personnel/property protection using industry-standard crime prevention techniques to minimize or reduce campus crimes. Serves as a shift lead in the absence of the supervisor and helps coordinate shift operations when the supervisor is present. Ensures investigation and security-related incidents are done per department standards and provides information and research.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Responds to emergencies of a medical, criminal, and mechanical nature; and uses Incident Command System/National Incident Management System (ICS/NIMS) model for emergency preparedness and response.
2. Assists in investigating incidents, interviewing participants and witnesses, completing incident reports, and documenting the issues.
3. Assists in investigating employee and student injuries and public accident incidents (e.g. interviews involved parties and college personnel; visits sites, takes photos and measurements) to ensure procedures are followed and any safety hazards are corrected.
 

SECURITY OFFICER I:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
2. . Valid Florida driver’s license or the ability to obtain a Florida driver’s license within 30 days of employment, with acceptable driving record.
3. Certified in CPR/First Aid/AED. If not currently certified, must become certified within six months of employment. Certification must be kept current and active.
4. Security or related training certificate that meets or exceeds security requirements under Florida Statute 493 Class D License required. Certification must be kept current and active.

SECURITY OFFICER II:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
2. Two years of experience as a security officer/guard or in a position with similar duties.
3. Valid Florida driver’s license or the ability to obtain a Florida driver’s license within 30 days of employment, with acceptable driving record.
4. Certified in CPR/First Aid/AED. If not currently certified, must become certified within six months of employment. Certification must be kept current and active.
5. Security or related training certificate that meets or exceeds security requirements under Florida Statute 493 Class D License required. Certification must be kept current and active.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. College coursework towards a degree or certificate in criminal justice or public administration.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Due to the need for emergency adjustments of work schedules or for campus emergencies, the following are necessary for this position:
a. In-residence telephone service or cell phone
b. Dependable transportation

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of security operations and procedures.
2. Ability to enforce regulations consistently.
3. Ability to describe people and objects in accurate detail.
4. Ability to operate a computer and its software, compose concise and comprehensive reports in Microsoft Word or other incident reporting software and maintain accurate records.
 

PHYSICAL ABILITY ASSESSMENT:
Per College Policy 1.020 and 2.020, and College Procedure 2.0350:
1. Final hire/appointment of a candidate offered employment in this position is contingent upon the candidate's successful completion of a job-related physical ability assessment.
2. Current employees may be referred for a job-related physical ability assessment or reassessment upon their supervisor’s recommendation and subsequent approval by the Office of Human Resources, or upon the recommendation of the Office of Human Resources.

WORK ENVIRONMENT and SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
1. Works primarily outdoors and is exposed to sun and other weather conditions.
2. Must be able to walk or remain stationary for long periods and regularly climb stairs.
3. Must be able to run when necessary and maneuver in small spaces.
4. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
5. Acceptable eyesight with/without corrective aid and ability to distinguish colors.
6. Various work locations and hours including overnights, evenings, weekends, and call-backs for emergency situations.
7. While on duty, be dressed appropriately for assigned duties.
8. Required to drive College vehicles.
