Engineering Student Assistant- Technician/Field Work (Oakland, CA)

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is seeking to hire a student assistant in a learning capacity, under the close supervision of Design staff. The student assistant, in a learning capacity, will assist with preparing project reports, contract plans, specifications, quantity calculations, and cost estimates, while supporting engineering tasks related to land development, hydraulics, roadways, bridges, and other transportation infrastructure. In a learning capacity, responsibilities include conducting research for design information such as-built plans, Right-of-Way mapping, aerial imagery, and utility data; performing basic engineering calculations; assisting with drafting plans, drawings, maps, and exhibits; supporting field investigations and measurements; and preparing documents using Microsoft Word, Adobe, Excel, and PowerPoint. The student assistant will also, in a learning capacity, provide general office support, including filing, organizing, and reproducing documents.
