Safety Manager (Environmental Health & Safety)

Primary Location: Bridgeport, CT (Multi-site responsibility with regular travel throughout CT, RI, and MA)
Position Summary
Santa Energy is seeking a Safety Manager (Environmental Health & Safety) to lead and continuously improve safety performance across multiple operating locations, including fuel delivery, service, and terminal operations.
This role is responsible for identifying key risk areas, reducing incident frequency, and minimizing insurance-related losses across the organization. Operating within a captive insurance structure, this position directly contributes to company profitability by reducing claims and improving long-term loss
performance.
The Safety Manager will work closely with Transportation, Service, and Terminal leadership to implement practical, field-driven safety improvements while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Identification & Loss Reduction
- Identify and prioritize key risk areas across operations
- Analyze incident trends and determine root causes
- Implement targeted safety initiatives to reduce incidents
- Partner with leadership to reduce insurance claims Fleet & Driver Safety
- Monitor and improve driver safety performance
- Manage and optimize use of the Lytx driver video system to ensure full utilization
- Conduct coaching, ride-alongs, and reviews based on telematics and video insights
- Identify trends in driver behavior and implement corrective actions
- Reduce preventable accidents and vehicle-related claims
Environmental & Operational Safety
- Minimize spill risk and maintain response programs
- Conduct audits and ensure compliance
Employee Safety & Injury Prevention
- Address lifting, slips/falls, tool use risks
- Implement training and procedural improvements
Field Engagement & Safety Culture
- Maintain strong field presence across all company locations
- Provide real-time coaching and intervention
- Work directly with Transportation, Service, and Terminal teams
Training & Development
- Schedule, develop, and deliver safety training programs across all locations
- Lead in-person training sessions and toolbox talks
- Coordinate external training providers and resources as needed
- Ensure training aligns with operational risks and locations
- Track completion and effectiveness of training initiatives
Insurance & Risk Management Coordination
- Serve as primary liaison with captive insurance risk manager
- Coordinate and support quarterly risk management audits
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of required documentation
- Monitor compliance with captive program requirements
- Partner with leadership to maintain eligibility within the captive program
Compliance & Administration
- Ensure OSHA, DOT, EPA compliance
- Maintain SDS and reporting requirements
Qualifications
- 3–5 years relevant safety experience
- Strong knowledge of safety and compliance
- Experience with fleet safety systems, telematics, or driver video platforms preferred
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly between company locations
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree or certifications (ASP, CSP)
- Industry experience in fuel, HVAC, or transport
