Position Summary:

This recruitment will be used to fill part-time (up to a maximum of 20 hours per week while class is in session and up to 30 hours per week during term breaks) Process Improvement Interns within the Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) at Oregon State University (OSU).

This Internship Program is designed for Industrial Engineering majors to give students hands-on experience in determining process efficiency for business process improvement projects led by DFA's Strategy and Operations department. As Process Improvement Intern, you will take part in a variety of tasks needed to evaluate current and future state business processes to standardize the gains in efficiency, as well as having opportunities to provide design ideas and perform tasks that will help overall department growth. Your efforts will contribute to DFA Strategy and Operation's desire to enhance department performance, improve decision-making, and better serve DFA customers.

Position Duties:

Artifact development

 

• Create templates for documenting and reporting process assessments and process improvements

• Collaborate with staff to identify and document needed outputs (e.g., consistent outputs of measuring improvement)

 

Standard Operating Procedures Development

 

• Create repeatable and consistent means of documenting process improvement

• Develop documentation of the operational tasks related to the assessment of current and future state assessments

 

Process Evaluation

 

• Develop current state process mapping and identify potential improvement areas

• Recommend, develop, and test process efficiency calculations

 

Documentation

 

• Document efforts clearly, including explanations when appropriate, to ensure easy access and understanding by staff and future interns building from this work

• Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study

• Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

• Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

 

• High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program

• Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term

• Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*

• Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term

• Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

 

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the https://internationalservices.oregonstate.edu/ (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

 

Additional Required Qualifications:

 

• Majoring in Industrial Engineering

• A "world perspective" which combines analytical abilities and research experience with the aptitude to apply these skills to new opportunities

• Demonstrated interest in developing standards for artifacts produced in the process evaluation cycle

• Strong qualitative and quantitative research abilities

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate professionally through email, documents, in-person, and over video/phone

• Self-motivated and willing to take initiative and receive feedback

• Ability and desire to work with peers as a team

• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Environment

 

Preferred (Special) Qualifications:

 

• A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity

• Class standing of Junior undergraduate or higher

• Demonstrated knowledge of design thinking or product design, finance, marketing

• Background in a specific field such as education systems, data analytics, market analysis, and design

• Experience and demonstrated success working on self-directed projects

• Previous work experience in a technical or business capacity

• Knowledge or experience with data visualization tools

 

Working Conditions / Work Schedule:

 

• Interns will be compensated for up to approximately 20 hours per week of work during the

• school term, and up to 30 hours of work per week during the summer and breaks

• Work will be completed under the direction of DFA staff

• Interns will be required to participate in orientation and training sessions before starting project work and additional training opportunities may be available during the internship

• A common work area will be provided for some office work. However, since many of the responsibilities involve independent research and contribution, interns may work in suitable remote locations upon approval.
