Overview: 

New Student and Family Experiences (NSFE) is seeking dedicated, personable, and detail-oriented student team members to serve as a Front Desk Assistant. This role is essential in providing an excellent first impression to new Bobcats and their families, offering exceptional customer service, administrative support, and a welcoming environment to all visitors. 

As a key member of the NSFE office, you’ll gain valuable professional experience while supporting a department that helps students successfully transition into life at Texas State University. 

 

About the Department: 

New Student and Family Experiences (NSFE) at Texas State University supports students and their families as they transition into the Texas State community. 

Through programs like New Student Orientation (NSO), Bobcat Welcome Week (BWW), and Family Weekend. NSFE helps new Bobcats build connections, navigate campus resources, and feel a sense of belonging from day one. Their work is essential in creating a welcoming environment that empowers students to succeed both personally and academically. 

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

Front Desk Operations: 
Greet and assist students, family members, and campus guests in a courteous and helpful manner. Respond to inquiries via phone, email, web, and in person; maintain a friendly and professional tone at all times. 

Phone & Email Management: 
Answer multi-line phones, forward calls to appropriate departments, and respond to email inquiries with professionalism and efficiency. 

Administrative Support: 
Perform clerical duties such as data entry, document filing, copying, organizing office materials, and assisting with the maintenance of accurate student and family records. 

Event Assistance: 
Support NSFE programs including NSO, BWW, Bobcat Days, Bobcat Admitted Student Days, Family Weekend and other relevant events. Duties may include event preparation, registration check-in, wayfinding support, tear-down or event-related other needs. 

Team Collaboration: 
Contribute to ongoing projects, training sessions, and process improvement discussions. Collaborate with other student employees and professional staff. 

Pay Rate determination: based on evaluations

Supervisor: Administrative Assistant II

Required Qualifications: 

Summer enrollment is not required; however, candidates must be enrolled as a full-time Texas State University student in good academic standing in the prior (spring 2025 and future (fall 2025) terms. 

Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA 

Strong verbal and written communication skills 

Professional, courteous, and customer-focused demeanor 

Detail-oriented and highly organized; able to multitask in a dynamic environment 

Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word); willingness to learn office software tools 

Reliable, punctual, and dependable with the ability to work a consistent weekly schedule 

Commitment to confidentiality and integrity in handling student and family information 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Previous customer service or front desk experience 

Bilingual or multilingual abilities 

Experience working with campus departments or student organizations
