AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate

Summer Learning & Community Engagement Support

Host Site: ReDefiners World Languages
Location: Tampa, Florida
Number of Positions: 10

  • 6 positions supporting Summer Learning Camp
  • 4 positions supporting Multicultural Festival & Community Events

Service Term: May 18 – July 10, 2026 (8 weeks)

Program Overview

ReDefiners World Languages works with children and families to strengthen literacy, language learning, and community engagement. During the summer, the organization operates a learning camp for elementary students and hosts community cultural events that bring families together around language, arts, and learning.

AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates will serve in direct service roles supporting daily program activities, student supervision, and community events. Members will help create engaging learning environments for students while also supporting the organization’s multicultural community festivals that celebrate language, arts, and culture.



 

Summer Learning Camp Support (6 Positions)

Classroom & Instructional Support

Summer Associates will support teachers in preparing and facilitating engaging learning activities for students.

Activities may include:

  • Assisting teachers with lesson preparation, classroom setup, and activity materials
  • Helping facilitate small group activities and supporting students during lessons
  • Assisting with transitions between activities and classrooms
  • Distributing and organizing student learning materials and supplies
  • Supporting teachers in maintaining positive classroom routines

Student Supervision & Safety

Members will help maintain a safe and structured environment for students throughout the program day.

Activities may include:

  • Supervising students during transitions, breaks, lunch, and non-classroom time
  • Monitoring restroom trips and hallway movement
  • Assisting staff in supervising outdoor play and activities
  • Following and supporting program safety procedures

Program Operations & Administrative Support

Members will assist staff with the daily coordination of program activities.

Activities may include:

  • Preparing materials and supplies for daily learning activities
  • Organizing classroom materials and equipment
  • Supporting inventory and organization of program supplies
  • Assisting with preparation for program events or presentations

Field Trips & Enrichment Activity Support

Members will assist staff in facilitating safe and organized off-site or special activities.

Activities may include:

  • Supporting supervision of students during field trips or enrichment activities
  • Helping organize student groups during activities
  • Facilitating structured activities while students wait for their turn
  • Supporting staff in maintaining safety procedures during off-campus programming



 

Multicultural Festival & Community Event Support (4 Positions)

Event Planning & Preparation

Summer Associates will support staff in organizing multicultural community events that bring together families, artists, and local partners.

Activities may include:

  • Assisting with planning logistics for multicultural festivals and community events
  • Preparing activity supplies, signage, and informational displays
  • Supporting coordination of event schedules and activity stations
  • Organizing cultural activity kits and educational materials
  • Helping prepare outreach materials and event setup plans

Community Engagement & Outreach

Members will help create a welcoming environment for families and community participants.

Activities may include:

  • Greeting and guiding families and participants during events
  • Assisting with participant registration or sign-in

Cultural Activity & Program Support

Members will support staff and partners in facilitating cultural learning experiences for families and children.

Activities may include:

  • Setting up and assisting with cultural activity stations (crafts, games, demonstrations)
  • Supporting presenters, artists, and cultural organizations during activities
  • Assisting with transitions between activities or performances
  • Encouraging participation and engagement among families and children

Event Logistics & Operations

Members will support smooth event operations before, during, and after community festivals.

Activities may include:

  • Assisting with event setup and breakdown (tables, materials, signage)
  • Helping keep activity areas organized and safe
  • Supporting distribution of materials, supplies, or refreshments
  • Assisting staff with basic logistical needs during events

Documentation & Program Support

Members will support staff with documentation and program improvement efforts.

Activities may include:

  • Capturing photos or short video clips of festival activities when appropriate
  • Tracking attendance or participation numbers
  • Assisting with collection of participant feedback or surveys
  • Helping organize documentation and materials after events
