IT Summer Intern - Chicago - Portal Innovations

Time Commitment: 20 -30 Hours a week

What We Are Looking For: 

Are you someone who loves solving problems and isn't afraid to dig into the "how" and "why" behind technology? We're looking for a curious, enthusiastic intern to join our IT team and get real, hands-on experience supporting the technology that keeps our organization running day to day.

This internship is a great opportunity for someone early in their tech journey who's eager to learn, works well with others, and can communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical people. You don't need to have all the answers — you just need the drive to find them. Whether you're troubleshooting a tricky connectivity issue or helping a new employee get set up on their first day, you'll be contributing real work that makes a real difference.

What This Internship Will Entail: 

  • Learn to serve as a first point of contact for employees submitting IT support tickets, developing strong communication and problem-solving skills along the way
  • Gain hands-on experience diagnosing and resolving common hardware, software, and connectivity issues for MacBook and laptop users
  • Assist with the setup, configuration, and deployment of workstations, peripherals, and mobile devices — building practical skills used across the industry
  • Support employee onboarding and off boarding workflows, including account provisioning and equipment setup, to understand how IT operations support a business
  • Develop good documentation habits by maintaining accurate records of issues, resolutions, and asset inventory in our IT service management (ITSM) system
  • Learn when and how to escalate complex issues to IT Manager, gaining exposure to a real-world IT team structure and mentorship
  • Participate in routine maintenance tasks such as software updates, patch management, and system audits to understand IT best practices
  • Contribute to internal knowledge base articles and user guides, strengthening both your technical writing and communication skill

What we're looking for:

  • Students working towards their Associates or Bachelors in related field
  • Strong communication skills and a team-first attitude
  • 1-2 years of foundational interest or experience in IT, computer science, or a related field
  • Comfort asking questions and a willingness to take on new challenges
  • Ability to work well with other

Compensation: $18.50 per hour 20 -30 Hours a week
