Job Responsibilities: 

The EHR Trainer is responsible for developing and providing training on the use of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) to clinicians and clinical support staff within the medical, Behavioral Health (BH), Dental, and PT Departments and clinical support staff, including but not limited to nurses, medical assistants, and health educators. Epic Overview Training will be provided for non-clinical staff. The EHR trainer will also participate in analysis efforts to improve system utilization and adoption of tools for both the overall SSCHC team and individual clinicians, and clinical support staff as required.  The EHR Trainer will support the Data Report Analyst by facilitating user’s adoption of Epic reporting tools, such as Reporting Workbench and Slicer Dicer, along with other reporting tasks as appropriate.
 

  1. Design and maintain the appropriate curriculum to be used for instruction for each of the clinicians and clinical support staff in the above listed departments to enable effective use of the EHR.  Includes necessary training to prepare established clinicians and clinical support staff for scheduled EHR upgrades/releases to ensure optimization of staff adoption.
  2. Develop and maintain the EHR training materials required to support all clinicians and clinical support staff and aid in the development as required of such materials for other clinical staff.
  3. Develop and conduct appropriate level of EHR onboarding training to all clinicians and clinical support staff, new hires and established, according to curriculum described in #1.
  4. Maintain centralized, accessible location for EHR training materials, rosters, assessments, schedules, and resources.
  5. Conduct general needs and skills assessments of end users to determine types of training needed and develop a recommended plan to address identified gaps.
  6. Utilize relevant data from the EHR and reports from Epic (i.e. Signal) to offer the necessary support and training to clinicians and clinical support staff to improve both efficiency and proficiency.
  7. Seek assistance from appropriate leaders to establish educational goals involving the use and proficiency of the EHR for the above-mentioned departments.
  8. Provide guidance to departments when those leaders have identified an educational need.
  9. Conduct classroom and one-on-one training, administer tests, and develop training regimens related to clinical workflows for newly hired clinicians and clinical support staff and ongoing professional development, as indicated.
  10. Assess impacts of release notices and upgrades for relevance to clinical workflows and coordinate with EHR Support Analysts (ESAs) to develop communication and training needs for staff. 
  11. Work synergistically with other EHR Support Analysts for workflow evaluation and development of training materials when there is a need for improvement.
  12. Participate in QI initiatives as they pertain to EHR documentation.
  13. Assist in the development of a Super User Program when organizational readiness has been validated.
  14. Develop and implement a data reporting training program for select staff members identified by their leadership.
  15. Assist Data Report Analyst with report maintenance activities.
  16. Assist Data Report Analyst with report development as appropriate.

Qualifications: 

  1. Minimum of associate’s degree in healthcare related field, information systems or education. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  2. Preferred 5 years’ experience as a trainer, with at least 3 in a healthcare setting. Nursing and EHR analyst background. EPIC experience preferred.  Credentialed Trainer in at least one Epic application, preferred.
  3. Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
  4. Must have the ability to understand healthcare software, explain technical concepts to non-technical professionals, and to translate administrative and operating requirements into clear, specific, and actionable curricula.
  5. Experience with mentoring, guiding, and training in a classroom or one-on-one setting.
  6. Ability to use written and oral presentation and communication skills to effectively communicate to a diverse audience ranging from unskilled personnel to highly trained and experienced professionals with a wide range of computer skills at all levels.
  7. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to handle tasks independently.
  8. Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  9. Ability to relate well to people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
