Business Operations Generalist
If you need a clear job description, a defined scope, and a 40-hour week to feel comfortable, stop reading.
If you've ever stayed up until 2am fixing something nobody asked you to fix, just because it bothered you that it was broken, keep going.
We’re looking for someone who wants to run their own business some day and is excited to work directly for two executives who have won before, building the next great tech company.
About Caliburn
Our solution is civilization-level interesting. How does physical AI (robotics) find better cybersecurity and deployment models than the leaky general purpose operating systems on your computer? Suddenly a computer with guns, arms, legs, and wheels cannot have the same vulnerabilities, and a band-aid solution won’t work. Enter TempestOS.
Caliburn Technologies is a defense software startup building the operating system layer for autonomous maritime platforms. We are seed stage, we have paying customers, our executives have won before, and we are about to grow fast. The U.S. Navy is reorienting its entire force structure around the kind of software we build. The market window is real and it's open right now.
We need one person to make sure nothing falls through the cracks while we sprint through it. This role matches pop culture analogues: Donna from Suits and Pepper Potts on one side, Charlie Young from West Wing and Alfred Pennyworth on the other. These are high-trust operators who combine judgment, discretion, and execution to translate leadership intent into sustained outcomes.
What you'll actually do
Isaiah McPeak, our Director of Operations and Investor Relations, has spent the last quarter building roughly 40 operational processes from scratch: contracts, compliance, SaaS infrastructure, vendor management, fundraising support, team onboarding, and more. You will own the execution of those processes and help build the next set.
This is not glamorous work. It is important work. And you will be doing it from a front-row seat to fundraising, product development, customer relationships, and company building at a pace most people never get to see.
Day to day, that looks like:
- Directly engaging with executives and building the info flow and reports they need, gaining confidence to be their voice and influence where needed
- Managing NDAs, contracts, and signature workflows from start to finish — nothing waits, nothing gets lost
- Tracking and maintaining SaaS tools, subscriptions, billing, and vendor payments
- Setting up compliance documentation, researching requirements, filing and organizing everything properly
- Supporting government-readiness processes and company formation tasks
- Processing POs, coordinating travel, and handling logistics
- Building and improving the systems that keep operations running without Isaiah having to touch them
- Jumping into whatever is broken or missing, without being asked twice
Who you are
You might have just graduated. You might have dropped out and tried building something yourself. You might have realized that you want to learn what real scaling looks like from inside a company that's doing it.
What matters more than your resume:
You are genuinely, almost annoyingly organized. You didn't pull all-nighters in school because you planned ahead. Your inbox is processed. Your notes are findable. You have a system, and you work the system.
You treat dropped balls as personal failures. Not in a fragile way. In a "that will never happen again" way. Nothing slips. You follow up before you're asked. You close loops.
You want to learn, not just execute. You'll be working directly alongside people who think carefully about how to build companies, manage investors, close customers, and scale operations. You'll absorb operational philosophy, not just task lists. That's the real compensation here.
You can handle ambiguity without freezing. Startups don't hand you a manual. You figure it out, ask good questions, and move.
You know how to use office tools. Our stack has about 25 SaaS tools and a range of integrations to produce documents and artifacts for government environments while feeling like a lean startup. If you’re new to spreadsheets, Claude, automations, or tools like Notion/obsidian/miro/whimsical/mindmaps (any is fine), then this isn’t for you.
You are hungry. 8 to 12 hours a day, in Austin TX, in person. This is not a lifestyle job. It is a launchpad. With success, you’ll grow in compensation and authority.
What you'll get
- $50k-60k salary to start, with a clear path to growth tied to company revenue milestones. Health/dental/vision benefits.
- Stock options. Real ownership in a company that has every reason to be worth a lot more in a few years
- Front-row seat to a venture-backed defense tech startup during its most critical growth phase
- Direct mentorship from Isaiah McPeak and exposure to Zac Staples, our founder and CEO
- A chance to build operational muscle that most people spend a decade trying to develop
- The ability to say, when this company is large, that you were here at the beginning and you helped build it
